“You’ve never mentioned,” Andrea realized, “but are you religious?”
Liz smiled. “Um, not strictly, no. I believe in God, I guess, but I don’t know if He’s the one and only, or if He’s anything like any of the churches think. I was raised Christian, in a generic sense of the word. Dad taught us the basics of the Bible, but we rarely went to church and he put a lot more emphasis on things like ‘treat other people well’ and ‘be kind’ and ‘love and forgiveness’ than the praying and worshipping and going to church and preaching stuff. Those lessons really stuck with me.”
“Yeah, I know what you mean. My mom’s side of the family is very religious, but Mom said it never worked for her. Dad’s never really put much into it at all. He says loving people is all that matters. Mom often says he’s a Buddhist and just doesn’t know it.”
