Chapter 43

“How about we get back on topic,” Brody suggested. “Let’s go inside so you can show us where it happened.”

“Follow me,” I replied, sinking down through the roof. I didn’t realize until we had that we’d been standing above the costume shop area.

“This is cool,” Jon said, looking at some of the costumes on the mannequins. There was a straw hat on a cutting table in the center of the room. Grinning, he put it on.

“How come you can pick that up?” I asked. “I tried with a pencil and zilch. The same with opening a door.”

“It comes with time,” Brody told me.

“Lots of time,” Jon muttered. “I’m finally able to open doors or hold something heavy, if I concentrate hard, and it’s been almost a year.”

That did not make my day. I led the way to the stage. Some of the actors were there, huddled at one side.

“I’m not sure I can do this,” Lydia was saying to Alan, the lead in the upcoming show.
