Chapter 13

Willa ultimately breaks the silence when she raises her head and says, “Jonah, look at me.”

Jonah raises his head, listening.

Willa needs a coat of fresh makeup; something to pretty herself up with during this dreadful dining period. If the mealtime has to be disdainful, at least she can be beautiful. Right?

“What was all the screaming about upstairs between you and Bobo?”

He thinks about lying. Why not? What does he have to lose? Nothing. Nothing at all.

Magnum smiles from cheek to cheek. At first, Jonah finds him immature, or unprofessional, at his job, but as he attempts to keep his composure together, tilting his head downward and placing a fist in front of his mouth, Jonah realizes that Magnum’s personality is always cheerful, positive, and an additive in any negative situation. Hence, Jonah doesn’t bark something rude and obnoxious at him.
