Chapter 25

“What the Hell is happening?” A second time, I asked Gamila, who’d traveled back to my residence with me. She’d brought me there, I assumed.

“Someone has infiltrated our sanctity. Someone evil.” She was at the door, eyes flashing. “Stay here.”

“Wait! Maybe I can help.”

“How? You have no powers. You are safer behind locked doors.”

Gamila disappeared right before my eyes, without even turning the knob.

“What the fuck?” I was angry. How dare she think she could order me around. Also scared out of my wits, I went to the window to see outside. The sky was pitch black, when just moments ago, it had been twilight. Blue flashes, like lightning again, but suddenly more sinister, lit up the entire expanse.

Footprints. With each illumination, I saw footprints. Not Gamila’s. She’d simply vanished. My first thought was of someone frightening, but then I remembered the footprints from before.

“Maybe my guardian angel who isn’t an angel at all has returned.”
