Papa slid his arm around my shoulders and pulled me snug against his side. “My son.”

For a moment, the man looked startled, but then he grinned. “This handsome young man is your son? Oh, David, you sly devil, you. I never would have thought you of all people would sample those goodies on that side of the lake.”

What lake? And what did he mean, Papa of all people? I began to dislike this man more and more.

“Does he have your pretty brown eyes?” Before I could prevent him, the man whipped off my sunglasses. “What the…? David, what’s wrong with his eyes?”

Why did everyone think there was something wrong with me? I was me.

Papa took the glasses from Dr. Lucas and slid them back on my face. “There’s nothing wrong with my son, Sam. However, I’d appreciate it if you kept this information to yourself.”
