“But…” Should he play dumb or would it only annoy Grim? He was talking now, but Thad had been talking to serial killers before, and while some of them liked to brag, they could just as easily clam up and never say a thing. “All the angels?”

Grim pushed forth his chin and widened his eyes, looking like something out of an animated movie. “What about them?”

“They weren’t powerful.”

He waved a hand as if swatting a fly. “It’s a game. You’re an officer—”

“Detective.”

Grim ignored him. “You understand the need for a good riddle, an intriguing hunt. It was fun watching the news, seeing the dogs of the bureau sniff around with their tails between their legs.”

“So…they had no…magical value to you?” Thad changed position, wincing at the pain radiating from his arm and shoulder. Pain meds would’ve been good now—new stitches and possibly a resetting of his arm too.
