“We can ask her about it later.” Jaecar walked forward again. “Right now, she’s out of capacity.”
“Right.” Thaddeus nodded. “Put me down.”
Sandy tightened his hold. He didn’t want to put him down, he never wanted to let him go ever again. “Why?”
“This pole is driving me crazy. I need to be able to use my hand when we go in there. I might not be as powerful as he is, and I might suck at casting spells—”
“You’re keeping me alive, babe. It’s a pretty neat trick.”
Thaddeus’ gaze softened. “It is, isn’t it? I wish I’d known I could do it. All my life I’ve believed I was a useless mage, and I have been, but mostly because I’m not a mage.”
“So…you’re adopted?” Ric was frowning at him.
“Maybe, or maybe my mom had an affair. I don’t know. I’ll have to…think about how to handle that. Mixed races are frowned upon, but since I can do some spell work, my guess is I’m half and half.”
