Jaecar bobbed his massive head and sauntered over to Grim’s limp body, his tail swishing, and a deafening roar echoing in the cave.

Thaddeus put a hand on his shoulder and squeezed. “Are you okay?”

Sandy nodded and covered his hand with his. “Yeah, you?”

Thaddeus’ skin was pale and his eyes haunted, but he nodded. “How could he ever think I’d want to do something like this?” He gestured around the circle. “How can anyone think I’m capable of doing something like this?”

Sandy feared Thaddeus would faint. “He was crazy, babe. His plans don’t reflect on you at all.”

Thaddeus grimaced. “We need to get back to the station. Pickering is our only lead to the women.”

Sandy stood, carefully wrapping his arms around Thaddeus and nuzzling his neck. He met Leo’s eyes who nodded in return. “Babe.” He took a step back, resting a hand on Thaddeus’ unhurt shoulder. “Let Leo and Elora talk to Pickering. You need to sleep.”
