Chapter 26

Flying faster than he ever had before, Troy made it to Wykon in record time. It was a good thing he was suited up, because Beck’s already dented trash can received a direct hit from Troy’s helmet as he came in to land. Winded, and his ears still ringing from the blow to his head, Troy leaned on the doorbell and hammered on the doorframe. He was about to rip through the screen door when Beck opened the front door.

“Hello?” Beck asked in confusion.

Troy realized Beck had never seen him in his football uniform, and the faceguard hid some of his features. “It’s me, Troy.”

“Troy? Why are you here? I thought you had practice?”

“I sensed you were in trouble, so I…” Beck didn’t look troubled. Had Troy overreacted again?

Beck opened the screen door. “I’m okay, now. It’s just—”

Adam appeared behind Beck.
