Chapter 66

“Yeah, I’m picking up on a lot of anger and despair,” Terry said, sounding worried.

Troy’s vision power instantly kicked in and he focused on a disturbance near the pharmacy counter. A guy, maybe a year or two older than Troy, was gesticulating wildly. His clothes were torn and dirt-streaked, his tangled and unwashed hair hung over his forehead and partially covered his eyes. Tuning into his emotion powers, Troy concurred with Terry’s assessment. The guy was highly agitated and desperate.

“Mall security’s here,” Will said.

Troy pulled back his vision and saw Joe racing towards the drugstore. Rather than being relieved, Troy got a distinct feeling of foreboding. “Come on, time to put what we’ve learned into action!” he said, leading the charge. As he ran, Troy did a quick scan of the angry customer’s body and saw a gun and a knife in the man’s pockets. “Joe, wait!”

But his friend didn’t look back, he pushed through the glass doors into the drugstore.
