Chapter 20

“He was here, wasn’t he?” he asked the dog.

As if she understood, Henrietta gave a soft bark, her stubby tail wagging fiercely. She reached up and licked Jordan’s nose. Jordan’s eyes filled with tears.

After a time, Jordan’s tears stopped. He looked around the room. Spenser had been here, and he’d cared enough to make the bed and clean up the apartment. That had to mean something. Maybe, just maybe, despite what Jordan had done, Spenser still had feelings for him. Why else would Spenser have gone to this trouble? He didn’t live here anymore. As slim a thread of hope as that might be, Jordan grasped it. He had to find a way to contact Spenser, to talk to him, to make things right. 13
