Chapter 21

Sandy shrugged. “I called him, and he should be here any minute.”

Kol heard footsteps before the scent of day-old booze and coffee reached him. A large man with a bushy dark beard and bloodshot eyes appeared in the doorway. “Sorry to interrupt.”

Sandy flew out of his chair and was hugging the stranger seconds later. Kol assumed this was the infamous Ulfgangur Hunter.

“You stink.”

Ulf grunted. “You woke me. I haven’t showered.”

“For a week? Do you live in a pub, you smell like old whiskey and ashtray.” Sandy rubbed his nose.

“Nice to see you too.”

Kol took a breath, preparing to say something to get their focus, but Ric was quicker. “Stop fucking around, we have work to do.”

Sandy and Ulf looked at each other. “He’s such a bore,” Ulf muttered before clapping Sandy on the arm right as he was getting a little see-through. Kol could tell the second he noticed, all muscles tensed and the hungover, sleepy man was replaced by an alert wolf. It calmed Kol to see he had some edge.
