Chapter 22

Elora’s fridge wasn’t stacked exactly, but she had eggs and enough things to make an omelet.

Adrenaline hit as emotions rolled over him. They weren’t anything extreme, an odd mix of calm and violent, and they didn’t fit in a staircase. The sound of someone unlocking the front door had him glancing at the gun. The shower was still running in the bathroom.

Should he fight or come quietly? If he went with them, Elora would be safe, but he’d be going back to Varg. He dove for the gun as the door opened. The intruder only had to take two steps before he appeared in the doorway.

It was the man from the car.

“Come quietly and no one gets hurt.” He aimed a gun at Eli, growling softly as the water was turned off in the bathroom.

Eli dropped the gun and raised his hands.

“Come here.” He continued to aim the gun at him, his emotions toned down, which had Eli suspecting this wasn’t the first time he’d kidnapped someone.

How had he found them? He’d left before Elora arrived, hadn’t he?
