Chapter 46

Eli’s hand touched his back. “What’s wrong?” The whisper flew through the house, making him more certain there was nothing there.

“Nothing, double-checking.”

“You sensed something.”

Kol glanced at him, his dark eyes wide, and gone was the playful expression. “No, I didn’t. I’ve always been sure nothing will get past my shifter senses, but…We closed a case a little while ago where a wizard kidnapped Thad, and where we found him there were no scents. We’re sure he’d killed several people in the circle, but every trace was gone.”

“You thought someone was here?” A trickle of fear leaked into the air.

“No. I was thinking what ifsomeone was here, and I didn’t realize it. Maybe we should get a dog.”

Eli blinked at him. “What?”

“Well, I’ve always figured I don’t need any extra security, I have my senses, no one will get by me, but maybe I dog would be good.”

“If someone can kill humans, they can kill a dog.”

“True, but you’d notice a dead dog on your doorstep.”
