“What was that about?”

“Jules.” Nix continued to watch her so he wouldn’t have to look at Logan.

“I figured as much, but why does she care?”

“They’re friends.”

Logan was quiet for some time. “So? We’re friends, and I don’t care who you’re screwing.”

“You’re family, and don’t you?”

He threw his hands in the air. “Other than Kyle, the man’s an ass, and you deserve better.”

“He’s not an ass.”

Logan stared at him for a long time. “I don’t get where the self-punishment comes in. You had a good childhood, right? Nice parents, didn’t starve, you weren’t bullied in school, no one was mean to you for being queer or dyslexic, and yet you constantly allow these assholes to take advantage of you. I don’t get it. Are you afraid of falling in love?”

“I’ve been in love.” What the hell was he talking about?

“I mean for real, in love in the way when you want to spend every minute of every day with that person. In love for the rest of your life kind of way.”
