Chapter 14

Before whatever weirdness had struck Jen, they’d planned to have dinner together the first night Meredith was there to go over the final details. Actually, it had been Meredith’s idea, and after some hemming and hawing, Jen had agreed. Maybe money was tight for her. Meredith could relate to that, and had suggested a modestly-priced place near the hotel. But Jen countered that with an idea of her own, and now Meredith was opening the door to a rather pricey establishment, darkly paneled and dimly lit. It was crowded, but almost immediately the hostess greeted her by name and directed Meredith to a corner booth, where she saw the back of a head sporting thick dark hair with a profusion of curls. That much Meredith remembered about Jen, and her heart picked up its pace just a bit.
