“Guess you’re not such a bad guy after all,” Lou said. “Maybe we canwork together without killing each other.”

“Let’s hope so. Cracking through the basement floor to bury a body would take ages. In the meantime, the body would start to stink.”

“No kidding.” Lou grinned at Rory’s joke, then said, “Okay, where do you want to eat?”

“You know the area better than I do, I suspect. Where would you suggest?”

“If you like Mexican, there’s El Noa Noa. In my opinion, it’s got pretty good food, which means something, coming from a third-generation Mexican.”

Rory snickered. “If you were first generation, it mightmean something. Anyway, yeah, that sounds good. Of course, I’ll eat anything that’s put in front of me, so…”

Lou studied him and replied, “Then you work it off afterward, from the look of you.”

“Good metabolism. I hope you have a pen and paper.”
