“That hit the spot,” Rory said, once he’d finished his fourth slice of pizza. He washed it down with beer before setting the bottle down on the coffee table. Leaning back, he winked at Lou, who was seated at the other end of the sofa. “For a first date, this wasn’t bad.”

“Nope. So…what movie are we going to for the second one?”

“A comedy?”

“You don’t like action movies?”

“I do, but right now I’d rather pass. I don’t need any reminders quite yet about what happened this morning.” He saw the look of concern in Lou’s expression and added, “I’m really all right, but still…”

“I understand.” Lou slid over, putting one arm around Rory.

“Snuggling comes after the second date,” Rory teased, although he liked the feel of Lou being so close.

“So I’m stepping up the—” Lou made finger quotes, “—schedule. Does that bother you?”

“Nope. Does this?” Rory kissed him quickly.

“A little.”

“Oh. Sorry.” Rory started to pull away, very afraid he’d just blown everything.
