Yeah. Another confrontation was just what I needed to make my day. But maybe the conversation would be calm. Because only so many thoughts could occupy my brain before it exploded.

Katherine stood. “How did you even put it together, Taylor?”

“I always had my doubts about how everything unfolded, and the MISSING poster was the last straw,” Taylor revealed.

Raquel’s jaw trembled. “Maximillian and I should go. This sounds like a private conversation.”

Taylor sneered. “No, you two should stay. It’s time for some honesty between friends.”

“The secret police wolves killed my parents,” Katherine said.

Taylor huffed. “You should’ve come to me.”

“And why would I do that? You’re the one who loves Queen Vivian and doesn’t care about Sirch’s bigotry,” Katherine spat.

Her point was blunt and I couldn’t pretend I never considered how much Taylor’s politics differed from everyone else I knew.
