Chapter 40

I rolled my eyes. “Do you want to go?”

“It might be fun. And it has nothing to do with my sister.”

The masked ball was an annual tradition dating back several centuries. It was a way for people to have fun and get together during the unbearable snowy season. Getting an invitation to the ball wasn’t easy, though. Even for people who were wealthy or had influence. Anyone who was anyone aspired to go to the masked ball. Most of the time, only friends and family members of the royal family went to the ball. There was always one or two tales of how a random person haggled an invitation by having some sort of connection.

“It’s fine. And I agree. It might be fun to have a night out together. But there is one thing we have to worry about.”

Stefan snickered. “And what would that be? Getting drunk and spilling your secret about Katherine?”

I jabbed his shoulder. “I told you my secret in confidence.”
