Chapter 75

In the corner of his vision, he saw Jack and Henri, who watched with utter shock on their faces. When the monster stopped struggling, he sat up. Cillian watched its breathing grow slower and slower until it finally stopped. He rose to his feet, smiled at his daughter, and immediately blacked out.

He awoke in a different room. His arm was bandaged. He ran his fingers over the cloth and felt stitches. He looked up and saw Zoe, who was busy cleaning the area. It was some sort of nurse’s office, the likes of which one might find in a grade school. Whoever belonged here was either missing or dead, but luckily Zoe had survived, and she must have tended to his wound.

“I wouldn’t get up if I were you. You lost a ton of blood.”

“Where’s my family?”

She turned to face him. “Outside waiting. Jack didn’t think Henri would benefit from seeing you get sutured. I’m inclined to agree. Don’t worry though, I told them you’d be fine with some rest and proper care.”
