“Could somebody have sold you out?” he asked.

Will shook his head. “Nobody knows what I am.”

“What about your familiar?”

“I don’t have one.”

“But I thought that was pretty much required.”

“Not necessarily.”

“What about who helped train you?”

“Self-taught, for the most part. You forget. I was raised around all this. I had firsthand experience with other mages, all the powers, all the history. Learning the specifics was child’s play after that.”

But he had to have friends who would know, somebody who could’ve spoken to the wrong person. When Alec said so out loud, Will laughed.

“You saw my house. Does it look like I entertain a whole hell of a lot?”

“Colleagues?”
