“No,” Uncle Martin said.

“Yes,” Will said over him. At Uncle Martin’s startled glance, he shrugged. “Well, it wasn’t really a lead, but they were definitely holding out on us.”

“What do you mean? How do you know that?”

“I stole their file on the case. How else was I going to find who did it?”

Uncle Martin bristled. “Damn it, Will, these are the kind of things you tell me about. I lost them, too. I lost all of you that day because you were so goddamned determined to turn your back on all of this.”

“I am not having this fight with you again. With either of you. I did what I had to do, and I didn’t tell you about the file because it was just pieces of stuff. It took me almost ten years to get my hands on it, and if I’d been caught, I wasn’t about to put you in jeopardy, too.”
