Chapter 59

Uncle Martin stared at him with the same disbelief. There was no telling how this would affect their relationship from this point on. He might not ever trust his brother again. But on the upside, he stopped asking questions every thirty seconds and let Will say his piece.

“Three years ago, I was almost ready to give up.” Will sipped his cold coffee. The lines around his eyes had turned into crevasses in the past fifteen minutes. “I kept hitting dead ends, and when I would finally find somebody who might be able to help, they turned out to be dead or missing. I’d gone all that time without a single attack, and I honestly thought I’d wasted everything chasing ghosts.” He offered Alec a wan smile. “I was this close to calling your mom and begging her to forgive me for being such an idiot.”

“But you didn’t.”
