Ghurva flattened himself against the wall, and Carlo followed suit. His heart was ringing in his ears as he heard more of the clicking sound. Were they around the corner? He wanted to run back to the supply closet and wait until Zen saved him. He’d never taken himself for the damsel in distress type, but right now he wouldn’t mind being rescued.
Taking a deep breath and channeling his inner MacGyver, he followed Ghurva as he rounded the corner. A wide door came into view.
“They’ve destroyed it.”
“What?” A knot formed in Carlo’s belly.
“The seal. We won’t be able to seal the door. They’ve locked on to the ship and have sealed themselves to us, but they’ve broken through our door. When they shut their gate and disentangle, ours will be left gaping open.”
Carlo shuddered. Never-ending space ready to crush them as soon as the pirates left.
