Chapter 27 I Sent Him to Prison

Chloe stared at Lisa in disbelief, too shocked to believe her best friend just said that. She had known her for more than ten years.

"Lisa Field, do you have any idea what you're talking about?" Chloe asked in a deep voice, calling her by her full name.

"You heard it. I'm your little puppy and pet, notorious and vain!" Speaking of the past, Lisa's face went pale at once.

Of course, Chloe remembered the gossips but she didn't know Lisa took them so seriously.

"You know what? I have my dignity and pride. I have never followed you around just because you are Chloe Johnson," Lisa's eyes went wet, "You are excellent in everything, and I have been living under your halo. And I never tell you this."

"Why don't you tell me?" Chloe was furious, "How come it's my fault now? Back then I wanted to avenge you but you didn't allow me. Remember? What are you trying to say now? That I don't care about you? Or I have neglected your feelings all the time?"

Chloe sighed, murmuring, "Why are we fighting like this? What went wrong?"

Before leaving, Chloe shook her head, "Let's take some time to calm down."

But she told herself she must find out what happened to Lisa back then. Even if they had quarrels, Lisa was still her best friend.

As Chloe returned to Daniel's house, she bumped into Sasha who was eating the watermelon.

"Watch out! Be careful!" Sasha stared at Chloe, shouting with contempt and hatred.

Chloe was in a bad mood and didn't want to talk to her, "Get out of my way."

"Chloe, you're back? Are you hungry? Shall I make you a dessert?" Helen came out in a hurry when she heard that Chloe had returned.

Helen's nice attitude pissed Sasha off so much. She herself had never been treated like this.

So she couldn't hold back her anger, snapping harshly, "What are you doing here? Stay in the kitchen and do what a maid should do."

"I wonder if you have learned any manners from your partners. Or how can you be so rude and obnoxious?"

Chloe parted her lips and retorted calmly.

"Chloe, remember you are only a guest here. So behave yourself, okay? Or I swear I will kick you out one day."

The next second, Sasha turned around and walked to the sofa. She crossed her legs on the table and watched TV with the watermelon in her hand. Comfortable and rude.

Chloe didn't even look at her, hugging Helen with a smile, "Helen, I'm hungry. Please make something for me."

Helen patted her on her hand, "Alright. Anything you like, Chloe."

Seeing Chloe and Helen getting along with each other so well, Sasha paused for a moment. Then she gritted her teeth, swearing to herself that they wouldn't live so happily for too long.

Out of hatred and jealousy, she deliberately turned up the TV, trying to block their chatting and laughter.

When Daniel returned, he frowned at the shrill noises from the TV which were so loud that he thought his neighbor might complain later.

As he walked in, he saw the culprit was watching the TV with her legs crossed on the table. He immediately turned it off.

"Who the hell turned... " Sasha stopped shouting as she saw Daniel. She put on a smile, her voice sweet and coy, "Oh my gosh, Daniel, when did you come back?"

Right now Daniel was feeling slightly dizzy from the noises. What's more, he joined a dinner and drank some wine.

Without even looking at Sasha, Daniel said coldly, "Don't sit on the couch like that in... this skirt."

Then he walked towards the kitchen directly.

What did he mean? Sasha paused for a moment. As she looked down and checked it, she realized her skirt was a little short and Daniel might have a glimpse of her...

Oh no. She blushed immediately, covering her face in the cushions.

While in the kitchen, Chloe was sitting relaxed, drinking the juice Helen just made her.

Helen was cleaning up the dishes, and they were chatting casually. No one noticed that Daniel walked in.

"Helen, I think you are my friend. So I want to ask you something. Is it true that a mother would gradually neglect her own child because of another child? I'm confused."

Knowing Chloe was referring to herself and her mother, Helen stopped to comfort her, "Chloe, you should believe that all mothers love their children. I believe there must be some misunderstanding between them if they feel otherwise. But in the end, they will learn the truth."

"How old is your daughter now?"

Helen smiled gently thinking about her daughter, "She's a little older than you, 25 years now."

"Oh, so she's younger than Daniel." Chloe somehow thought of Daniel. In fact, she thought about him quite often recently.

"Helen, get me a cup of hot tea, please. I need to sober up." All of a sudden, a cold and deep voice came.

Daniel? When did he come here?

Chloe turned to look at him, patting her chest and muttering, "You just scared me. When did you come back? Why didn't you knock?"

In silence, Daniel walked over and sat down beside her, looking very tired.

Neither of them spoke in a while. Chloe took a plate of dessert, biting her spoon nervously like a child.

"You still like biting your spoon? Like you always did when you were young." Daniel couldn't help smiling as he looked at her, his eyes soft and tender.

When she was young? She didn't even know she had this habit.

But he did.

Thinking about it, she felt her heart was racing wildly.

What was this supposed to mean? He had been caring about her since she was young? No no no, she shouldn't overthink. Maybe he was just observant.

"You… seem to have drunk a lot tonight, huh?" Chloe said cautiously.

She knew that he used to have business dinners and drink wine in her previous life. But he never came home drunk as he was now.

So maybe this dinner was special.

"You remember the guy who harassed you last time? I just sent him to prison." Daniel cracked a proud smile.
