"Hey Robert, can my wife join us?" Ryton asked pulling her forward, "She'd just want to make sure I am alright."
"Why should I agree?" The man frowned and glared at her.
"I apologize for my outburst, Sir Robert. I am only worried for my husband and how hard he had been working lately. Please, ease my worries, won't you?"
She bowed and looked at him with big pleading eyes. Robert's glare wavered before he agree with a frown. She told the crying mother that she would make sure her boy was okay, before rejoining by Ryton's side where the boy was. She felt the man kiss her temple and held her hand.
'Hm, he seems nice. Forward, able to negotiate, and he is quite handsome. I think.... maybe he could be one of my soldiers,' she wondered.
When they arrived to the fields of grapes on vines, fruits in trees, and rice wheat field, Moon would had thought it was beautiful if it weren't for all the tired children and elders working the fields. Some were older like Ryton, but many were younger.
"Alright, don't cause trouble or you know what would happen," Robert stated glancing at all three of them.
"Don't worry! You know me, Robert. Go enjoy your rest," Ryton waved with a grin. They watched Robert and the other men head away to the shades where chairs awaited their bottoms.
"This is your first time, right?" Ryton squatted down to be at the boy's eye level.
The boy nodded.
"What is your name? My name is Ryton and this is… Uh…" hazel eyes looked to her and she couldn't help laughing.
"You may call me Moon."
"I'm Jack."
"Nice to meet you Jack," Ryton rubbed the boy's head, "I know you don't want to leave your mama, but if you do super awesome, they will let you take extras home! Isn't that great?"
"Really?" The boy looked surprised.
"Yup! I've done this since I was your age. It would be okay as long as we make it a game! So for your first day," he hummed, "Let's see if you can pick 3 buckets of good grapes. If you do, I promise to give you my portion that I can take home. Deal?"
The boy's eyes sparkled and he nodded. Ryton laughed and showed them where the buckets were and how to see which were the grapes they should pick. Once that was done, Ryton showed them where the buckets were and handed one to the boy and himself. Moon grabbed one as well, but Ryton held her wrist before she could pull a bucket off.
"Moon, you don't need to. It would look bad if my darling wife were to work on my behalf," Ryton smiled and she hummed before pecking his cheek.
"As a good wife I should help my husband, shouldn't I?" Moon grinned and pulled the bucket out to join the boy.
As a Moon Goddess, she had always watched from above or spent time in the forest. If she were to speak with her people, they would see her as such a high being that it was hard to relate. Here, picking grapes off the vines, hidden as one of them, was relaxing to her. She glanced over to see Ryton was singing as he worked, causing the child to laugh.
She watched him check in with the others, causing a better moral and energy. It was beautiful, if she was honest. Ryton, she wanted him to be a chosen one. He had all the qualifications needed and she could feel it in her heart that he would love many. Smiling, she looked at the child working on his second bucket. She looked at her own and saw she only touched a third of her bucket.
"Ah, you are quite fast," She complimented, "You will complete 3 in no time."
"Thank you, Miss Moon! I want to bring some back to mama. She would at least be happy and not crying."
The boy smiled so bright, she was reminded of her stars. Patting the boy's head, she cupped his cheeks and wished for the boy's happiness and wealth. By the time Robert came to tell them they were finished, the boy was only halfway done with his 3rd bucket even though she had added her portion to his.
"Hey, don't worry," Ryton smiled and squatted down, "I will give you mine this time cause you worked really hard. Next time, you have to work extra hard okay?"
"Are you sure? Ryton, sir, I can't-"
"It is no problem. Enjoy it with your mama. Don't hog it!" He called out and the boy was so excited, he hugged the bucket running to his home.
Ryton laughed and she interlocked their fingers, startling the man. They got to his house and he turned to look at her with the sunsetting behind him. He could tell she was beautiful just by looking at her. Not much skin was shown unlike many of the females around him, but something about Moon attracted him.
"So… We don't have to pretend anymore, Moon. Where do you live? I'll walk you."
"Mm, can I come in? For tea, if you have any."
She smiled and he nodded. She entered his home and the place was nicely kept. Not many things to decorate the small home, and her guess was right. He was single. That made her heart happy.
Accepting the tea, she smiled at him and touched his hand.
"I thank you for what you did. You didn't have to step in and you took good care of everyone there. Although I am not happy they were just taken, I am happy you made it easier for them to bear. I also know you did not need to step in, but you did. You are kind."
"Moon," Ryton laughed and leaned closer to her, "If I didn't know any better, I would think you are trying to get into my pants."
She grinned and pulled away. Drinking her cup, she looked at the young man amusedly. If he knew she was, would he let her?
"You asked me where I live, Ryton," She looked at her empty cup, "I have no where to live right now. May I stay here for the night?"
