"Ah, I don't think that is wise, sir. She comes from Springcall or Rosemount. You know how the leaders are when it comes to their women," Ryton reminded and hoped Sir Jason Meeks let this one go. He didn't want to give her to him nor was it even his choice to do so.
"Hm," Jason's lips stretched into a wider grin, "I am sure I could convince them. Hm, she certainly has pretty eyes."
Ryton watched the man's fingers touched Moon's hair and face, touching over the fabric where her lips were. He was waiting for the female to speak up, to yell at all those touches, but she did nothing but accepted them. Fisting his hands, he forced out a grin so wide, it caused his eyes to slit.
"She is truly a beauty and a great addition to your many mistresses, Sir Jason Meeks. How about I go home early to help her prepare? I'll bring her to you bright and early tomorrow morning!"
Jason laughed and saw the man shaking where he was. He smirked and nodded, watching Ryton grab the woman and bowed, before rushing off.
"Are you sure sending him away was good, sir? I would've had him triple what he normally make!" Robert huffed and Jason sat back down, drinking from his glass.
'Now, let's see where your loyalty lies, Ryton Yu.'
When they left the field, the Moon Goddess was being dragged all the way back to Ryton's home. Once they were in the comfort of his home, she was able to take a breath. She stood before him, but his back was to her. The man was still leaning against the door he had just slammed closed.
"Why didn't you stop him? Did you like it when he touches you like that?" He was asking quietly before it raised with each word, "Heh, if I knew you like it, I would had touched you already! Goddammit! Why the hell did he have to show up now!"
Moon just listened before she sighed. She was not going to be that man's wife. Sir Jason Meeks must have been one of the men who are fine with enslaving his own people for himself. From what Ryton said, that man had many wives and she wondered if they were forced like she was to be, or if they willingly did so.
"Why didn't you stop him?" She questioned back.
Ryton turned to her and stared.
"You know why! I am a poor man with nothing. Sir Jason has money, power, girls. There was no way I could go against him! You don't understand because you are wealthier than you say you are. You could have men flocking to you, feeding you whatever you want, but not me. I had to fight for what I have, what I could get."
He moved into her space and grabbed her wrist.
"I know it isn't right, but it is what I have to do to survive."
She stared at him, watching the way his brows dipped, but his eyes showed fear. She felt the twitching of fingers against her pulse. Moon observed the wavering lips on the man was hazel eyes.
"Then you will prepare me for him like you said, right, because you have to."
Ryton's eyes widened and he gritted his teeth. He didn't want to, but if he didn't then he'd get in trouble. Searching her face, he wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly to him. Maybe… Maybe he could run away with her? They wouldn't escape Sir Jason Meeks for long, but he was sure they could live happy.
Almost certain.
But he knew she came from money. Her beauty, her presence, everything about her was dripping with gold. Would she even want to be with him? He was not lying when he said he was poor. He grew up with nothing more than his quick wits and fake mouth.
He pulled her face from his shoulder and stared into those purple eyes.
"Let's runaway together," he whispered and she laughed.
"I have a mission, Ryton. I cannot run forever."
"What mission? I can help you. I don't have much but I can get information from people," he offered running his fingers through her hair.
"That is good to know, a useful skill," Moon smiled, "Tell me, do you believe in the Moon Goddess?"
"What? Why would you ask that?" He frowned before pulling away from her, "Sure. I believe she is real, probably. My mom certainly believed it."
She watched him pull out the necklace from underneath his shirt. The pendant was a flat rock with her face engraved. She felt relief washed over her and she touched the pendant, sending some of her power into it so it may protect this man.
"What would you do if she is here?" Moon smiled up at him and he grinned.
"Kill her."
"…"
"…"
"What?" She whispered as the finger on the pendant shook.
"I would kill her," he leaned in closer and she wrapped her fingers around the pendant, "My mother prayed to her every morning and night. She never received anything from her. My mother died sick, alone, and she was still praying for her even on her death bed."
"It is not her fault," she tried as her eyes felt teary.
"Maybe."
"Then you do not care for the Moon Goddess…"
"No," he admitted and cupped her face, "But I care for you."
He leaned in closer, lips brushing against the light covering over her mouth. However, he was shoved back and his necklace broke from the hold the female had on the pendant. He touched his neck and went to reach for it back, but the raven haired female held it away.
"Give it back! What the hell are-"
"Your mother was a kind woman. She did her best to provide for you and her faith in the Moon Goddess was unwavered. May she be in peace," Moon paused and ran her thumb over the pendant before looking at Ryton, "If you do not believe in her, there is no need for you to wear this."
Ryton scowled and grabbed the pendant, the only thing he had left of his mother, back from her hand. How dare she tell him what he should and shouldn't do! Scowling, he wanted to yell at her, but she was crying. Why was she crying? He didn't do anything to her!
"Ryton, could you give me tea please. I apologize for breaking your chain. I thank you for your time, for letting me accompany you."
"I accept your apology," he frowned, "Don't do it again. This is all I have from her."
She nodded and he went to the kitchen to begin boiling water. By the time the tea was prepared, Moon was gone and Ryton was alone again with the pendant in his fist.
