She couldn't force the process, it would lead to a broken bond, but that meant she was going to have to wait even longer! Did Cayden not love her? She could feel it emitting off him when they speak of her, so why couldn't he see that she was the real deal! All he had to do was accept his faith and purpose. That was it!
"Should I leave or stay now?" She whined and looked out to the moon. The brightness was dimmed and she felt worry clawed in her. Hopefully tomorrow would be better. Hopefully tomorrow, Cayden James would accept his new path.
For the sake of her life.
The next day, she changed back into her clothes. Fixing her hair, back as black, she covered the bottom half of her face and left the room. As she was walking down the steps, she saw Cayden drink tea at the table. His eyes were staring out the window lost in thought. Pouring herself a cup, she went to sit before him.
His blue eyes blinked to take her in before they looked away. Red dusted his cheeks and he fixed his glasses, before drinking from his cup. She sighed and pouted. She knew from the start Cayden was a shy man, but he was generous and kind. Maybe she would need to be more assertive with him.
"Sir Cayden," she spoke up and it took him a few times to swallow correctly.
"Y… Yes?"
"Last night was true. What I said I mean and what you saw was true. Do you have questions for me?"
"…"
"Cayden," she pouted, "I am trying here. I want you to be my loyal soldier. You are perfect. I trust you would do what is best for the people of this land. Your heart is pure and clear. I cannot force you into it if you don't want to," she placed a head on her hand, "Am I that terrible looking that I am denied?" She whispered to the last part to herself.
"You are beautiful," Cayden whispered, "So much so that it is unreal. I… forgive me, but we have only just met and you already feel as if I am worthy for such honor. I am a mere doctor, not a warrior. I do not know much in terms of war and battle."
Was… Was that all Cayden was worried about? Ah! That made it even better! If that was all that worried the man, she would tell him exactly why there was no need to be in such mood. Smiling, she walked around the table like she did last night and cupped the man's face.
"Cayden James, I did not choose you to battle or fight. I choose you to listen, settle disputes, bring peace to this land. Will you be my alpha?"
Fingers touched her face cloth and she nodded.
The doctor removed it to reveal her lips to him and Cayden could not believe the similarities. His fingers grazed down soft forehead to temple, cheeks to chin, and down nose to lips. He had done this to the statue in his closet. Some days he would stare, some days he would pretend she was alive with him, most days he prayed.
He had her in his hands now, literally.
His prayers came true. The Moon Goddess would become his.
The sound of the bell announced a guest had arrived. Quickly turning away, the Moon Goddess fixed her covering and paused. That voice… she recognized that voice.
"Miss Moon..."
She turned to see the redhead staring at her and she bowed in greeting.
"Sir Daniels Barrett."
"Oh, you two know one another?" Cayden smiled as he went to the corner of the room to pull out a black box, "That is good. Daniels, it took me a long time to grind these up. Please do not use them so quickly. Take your time."
"Thank you, Cayden," the redhead bowed, "How has business been? Your grandparents worry."
The Moon Goddess listened to their conversation as she walked around the room, spraying the plants as she went. She bit her lips in wonder and was thinking if she were to mark Sir Daniels already, the pact would be so strong with the addition of Sir Cayden. From the sound of it, the doctor's grandparents lived in the leader's town of Wolftown.
'Who were his grandparents? They were the ones to believe in her, pledging their fidelity to her, right? I wonder if I've met them…' her eyes widened, 'He has family... How did I forget that...'
Lost in thought she felt fingers wrapped around her wrist and she jumped, accidentally spraying at the intruder.
"Ah! My apologies," she bowed and moved to grab a towel, "I was thinking too much. Are you alright?"
"It is only water," Daniels said as she patted his face and chest.
He didn't think he would see her again.
Last time he saw her, she was in tears. He still had the clothes he bought for her in his room. If he knew she was here, he would have brought it for her, but seeing her here with the doctor…
'Are they…'
He happened to have caught the smile on his friend's face before opening the door. He didn't get a good look at the who the doctor was smiling at, but he assumed it was Samantha. However, it was Moon, the mysterious female who he made cry.
"How are you, Sir Daniels, and how is your brother, Sir Matthew?"
"Fine," he answered and followed her into the kitchen. She noticed and told him to go sit down, she would prepare tea for him. He did as told and looked over to see his friend walking down the stairs to join him. There was an item wrapped up tightly with a white cloth.
"My grandparents would love this, Daniels. I hope you don't mind."
"Not at all," he smiled with a nod, "Are you certain you don't wish to return? You know how Flathand is, Cayden."
The doctor smiled and nodded. Of course, he knew. Truth was, he was trying to get away from all the faith talking, all the love for the Moon Goddess his grandparents were doing. Their Goddess did not come when they needed aid. She did not save them when his parents were taken to work. She did not send anyone to protect them.
So, he chose the only city that disregarded everything that was the Moon Goddess at that time.
