Cayden worked tirelessly, keeping his mind so busy he got sick himself. Then he remembered his grandparent's gift to him and stared at the bracelet of the wolf marked with the Moon Goddess's power.
That was the first time he prayed in years.
Just like that, he continued to pray, continued to believe, continued to hide it all away. Only Daniels knew of what he was doing. Now, Moon did too.
Tea was poured for both of them and they thanked the female.
"I'm going to take a walk, enjoy your conversation," Moon bowed, "If I don't return by the time you leave, Sir Daniels, please be safe on your way back."
She bowed and left the men to talk. As she was out exploring the city of Flathand, the men in the clinic stared at one another.
"Cayden."
"Yes?"
"Moon."
"Yes."
"…"
"She was soaked when I met her so I made sure she was taken care of, Daniels," Cayden smiled looking at his tea, "She is very special."
"You're in love with her?! So soon?!" The leader of Wolftown shouted with wide brown eyes.
'It was too fast, wasn't it?!'
'Weren't you attracted to her right away too?' His inner voice reminded him.
Daniels shook his head and ran his fingers through his hair, scratching it as he went. He frowned and looked at the smile on the doctor's face. He was five years his senior, but Daniels knew how strongly Cayden felt about his work. He was the same way. They both put their duties first, but with Moon involved, was Cayden going to change?
Would he?
"Sir Daniels," Cayden sent him a smile, "Had you prayed to the Moon Goddess yet?"
By the time Moon returned, Sir Daniels Barrett was not at the clinic. Smiling, she closed the door behind her and went to look for the doctor. He wasn't in the kitchen or upstairs. Walking out the back, she heard Samantha's voice and her giggles. Peeking her head, she saw the female was sitting on the doctor's lap, giddy with laughter.
She couldn't see Cayden's face, but she stared seeing the man was not moving or speaking.
'Hm? Is he asleep?'
Walking out toward them, the female looked over and a scowl took over the dopey smile.
"What do you want?!"
"I wish to speak with the doctor."
"He is busy."
"…"
Narrowing her eyes, she took steps closer and the female quickly got off the doctor to get in her face. Her eyes narrowed even further. Whatever Samantha was trying to hide, it had to do with the kind man. The pokes and the harsh screeching from the female only made her eye twitched harder.
"What did you do."
"N… Nothing! How dare you accuse me!"
"Sir Cayden," she called out to receive nothing. She called out again, but the female tsked and was pushing her back. Something was wrong and she knew it wasn't good. Quickly pushing the girl away, she rushed to the sitting man to see eyes closed and a slight drool at the corner of his lips.
She placed a palm to the man's forehead and there wasn't anything wrong. The man was just asleep, but why was he out here in the back of the clinic? She glanced at the fuming female still screaming at her.
"What did you give him?"
"What?! Still accusing me! I will tell you I know many people Moon! How dare you- Don't you know who I am! I am the richest-"
"He is really sick."
"…" Samantha stopped her screeching and blinked with wide eyes and mouth hanging, "W… What?"
"I know how to help him, but you should leave or I could tell him the truth when he wakes. Which would you like?" She offered with a straight face and standing tall.
The female hesitated, glancing between the doctor and her before stumbling back to rush out. After a few breaths, she dropped her shoulders and shook her head.
"Cayden, your flaw is you are too kind," she sighed and ran her fingers along his face. Smiling, she pulled away and looked to the darkened sky, "Soon. I feel it."
She turned to the sleeping man.
'Soon.'
When Cayden woke up, he found himself in bed. Yawning, he sat up rubbing his eyes, unsure how he got in bed. He remembered he was talking to Samantha and the female needed help sleeping. He remembered giving her some herbs to help and they were drinking tea. That was all he remembered.
'Was I that tired last night?'
His eyes widened and he quickly left the room. Normally, his room was given to Moon, so him on the bed meant the female left or she ended up sleeping on the couch downstairs. How rude was he to let a lady sleep on the couch! Once he reached the last step, he saw the Moon Goddess holding two cups of tea.
"Slept well?"
Moon greeted and he felt relief washed over him. Cayden walked toward her and waited for her to place the cups down before wrapping his arms around her. He heard the soft laugh against his ear and arms wrapping around him.
"I…" He pulled back and looked at her for a moment before looking at their feet, "If you mark me, if I accept, I will need to leave my work. I don't think it would be good that Flathand had no doctors, my Goddess. I apologize."
When he finally found the courage to look up, he saw the pout and big pleading eyes aimed at him. Ah, it was making his heart hurt.
"You… You decline my offer?" She slid to the floor and lied on the ground, "Why must you all do this to me? This is my punishment! Wahhhh!"
"Moon…"
"No. Let me lie here alone. Go away."
She curled up, rocking herself as she tried to get her broken pride back in order. Not one man she found suitable was suitable after all! How could her own judgement disappoint her! How could her gut instinct be so wrong! Ugh! Could she even find someone to be her protector?! This was taking so long that she feared she wouldn't find anyone at all!
