You Are Strong

The sunlight flashed through the window, illuminating her for a brief second. Yet, it was enough to remind her of her brother's talk. Ah, her brother was always looking out for her. Sighing, she pushed herself off the floor and dusted herself off.

"I hope you don't tell others about me, Sir Cayden James."

"I promise," the man smiled and pulled her chair out for her to sit, but she continued to stand.

"I thank you for caring for me, doctor. I shall be on my way. May you be filled with love and happiness, Sir Cayden James."

"Wait… You… You're leaving?" The doctor looked as if he would reach out to her but didn't.

"Goodbye," she smiled and headed to the front door but fingers wrapped around her wrist.

"But… It doesn't mean you need to leave," Cayden said softly, "You can stay, my Goddess."

She sighed and pulled the hold on her wrist off her.

"The world had changed much since I slept, Cayden. I must fix this and find my alpha. I understand why you chose to stay as a doctor and it is honorable, beautiful to know your heart. Thank you for the honor," she turned and paused at the door to turn back, "You are very kind, Cayden, please do not let other's take advantage of it."

Stepping outside, she smiled up at the sun and exhaled.

That was alright. The doctor was a good candidate, but he was right. If she took him away from the city, they would be vulnerable to many ailments with no assistance. Well, she shrugged to herself as she walked down the street, off to the next one.

The Moon Goddess tried to find someone to be her alpha in the city of Flathand after losing the opportunity to mark the doctor, Cayden James. However, no one had the qualities she was looking for. Sighing, she left the city and continued down the long path toward another city.

Moon had noticed people were staring at her and then at her feet.

'Hm? What is wrong with my feet?'

She looked down and wiggled her toes.

She looked over at the people again and saw they were not bare footed like she was. Why would they cover their feet? Feeling the ground, the land under ones feet was a connection to this world one should not block. How were they going to help one another and the land if they could not feel it?

"Maybe I should have stayed asleep," she mumbled to herself.

She came to an open field of grass with sparse dandelions. She smiled and enjoyed the fresh grass under her toes. Laughing, she turned and twisted, dancing to the song of nature. Butterflies danced around her before briefly touching her. They fluttered away and she watched them go with a smile. Feeling brighter, she continued down the path of grass.

Her brother's watchful eyes were setting and her dear stars were starting to sprinkle the sky.

"I'll continue walking tomorrow," Moon decided and went to climb up a tree. Once she was high enough, she stared out to her half moon. The glow was still not strong and she fisted her hands, steadying her resolve, and solidifying her mission.

"I must find someone soon, before it is too late," she whispered and felt the presence of her brother. Looking down, she saw her handsome brother smiling up at her with his golden eyes.

"Brother!"

"Sister," her brother climbed up to join her, "Still having trouble I see. Has it normally taken this long?"

"Ugh, no," she pouted leaning against the trunk, "I don't think my powers are strong enough anymore. Many still dislike me. I worry, brother, the glow is not as it should."

"I agree," her brother sighed and cupped her cheek, "But I know you can do it, sister. You are strong. I believe in you."

She laughed and hugged her brother tightly.

"Thank you."

They stared at the moon and she felt her brother's head land on her shoulder. She leaned down to see what was wrong to find her brother was asleep. Smiling, she lifted his head to maneuver her brother to lay on her laps. Running her fingers through his white hair, she looked back at her moon.

"I promise to do better, brother."

The next day, she continued down the path of grass. Pressing a leaf to her lips, she played a song her brother taught her once. The light wind picked up her hair and dress, flowing behind each walk. Enjoying the breeze and the chirping of the birds, she almost missed the purring. Glancing down, she saw the orange cat swaying before nuzzling her legs.

Kneeling down, she continued playing the song and the cat ended up snuggling up on her lap. Laughing, she stopped playing and petted the orange cat. It purred and she smiled, scratching behind the ears.

"There you are," a man with raven hair and freckles on his face grinned, running up to her, "Found a pretty girl, I see."

"Is he yours?" She asked and the man laughed kneeling to scratch under the purring kitten.

"No," he shook his head and smiled as the cat rubbed against his palm, "I can't have pets. My father would say I don't focus enough," he leaned in covering a side of his lips to whisper, "Anything would be a distraction from his boring lectures."

The freckled faced man laughed and she smiled, looking down at the cat. Fingers reached out to pluck a leaf off her hair and she wondered how it got there.

"Ah, looks like you could use a brush, Miss," the man smiled, "Your hair is long and I can see some leaves peaking out of your strands. Also, I can't believe Mr. Orange likes you so quickly. It took me years of feeding him before he let me pet him."

Petting the cat a few more times, she placed a kiss to his forehead before releasing Mr. Orange back to the floor. Smiling over to the man, she pulled her hair forward to see he was right. She sighed and picked a few leaves out.

This was not good. With the way her powers are diminishing, it won't take long until she was nothing more than dust. She looked at the freckled face man and felt desperation overtake her. She grabbed the man's hand and stared into his brown eyes.

"Are you loyal to the Moon Goddess, Sir? Please, I must know. I do not have much time."
