That Witch is up to something. I'm not sure what she's up to exactly but it's definitely not good. Well I mean whenever I do think of her all I end up thinking about is what the heck she's up to but this time is different.
Recently she's been acting extra weird. She hasn't even tried to talk to me since last time and I hardly see her. Not like I want to. I gave her the brutally hurtful nickname of 'Witch' for a reason.
But even more, I've seen her up past when everyone sleeping just going outside. What normal person stays up so late? I mean she's not normal. It's very important to have a normal sleep schedule.
Anyway, I hope that's enough explanation to explain why I'm standing on top of our house in the middle of the night watching the front door.
…
Whatever she's up to I'm either not going to let her get away with it or just totally ignore it. Kinda depends on what she's doing but knowing her I've crafted my theory.
Human trafficking. I mean think about it. This no reason a normal town should behave like this and I believe the Witch is the culprit. That's right this town has an underground trafficking organization and that Witch is at the top.
And of course my proof for this claim? Well, just be a little patient. When the Witch walks out that door I'll have the proof I need.
"Marissa just left her room" I hear Mara say behind me.
Oh, right I decided to bring Mara with me on this espionage-like mission. You know, experience and all that, and if anything she's more suited to this mission than I am.
"Oh ah hey right good job," I say voice slightly shaky.
She's better at this than me not only because I already know her speed but also because she just scared me half to death just now. I had no idea she was behind me until she gave her report.
Even saying all that she doesn't seem the keenest on this mission.
"Marissa just doesn't seem like the person that would be up to anything. It feels like we're in the wrong for intruding on her personal life" She says whispering.
Ah darn, it looks like my cat friend isn't a mindless yesman that agrees with everything I do. What a shame. But seriously it's nice that she's given her two sense on this situation.
I overheard Mara and Sara have a lot of history with the Witch so I thought Mara wouldn't even go with me but for some reason she did. Though she keeps finding new ways she disagrees with it every few seconds.
Look she doesn't have to be here if she doesn't want to but no for some reason she staying.
Mara seems to be annoyed right about now. Seems my lack of actually talking is getting to her. She probably wants me to refute her point or something so she can prove she's right in an argument.
An augment I don't think I can exactly win so instead of losing ill just take a draw by not playing. Not like I'm up for talking anyway. I don't want our cover to be blown that easily.
Just then I hear the wooden door to our house open it creeks open and a few seconds later I see a dark silhouette leave the house. It also seems like there carrying something.
Bingo.
I have all the evidence I need now it's time for a confirmation. That will be handled by Mara.
Both me and Mara jump down from the house in front of the witch.
"Stop right there criminal scum!" I say as we come face to face with the witch.
Marissa- I mean The Witch must have been so surprised by mine and Mara's entrance that she forgot she was holding something. Wherever it is, falls to the ground and gets scattered around.
Hah, the perfect moment I was looking for.
As The Witch tries to hide the evidence I swiftly pick up one of the suspicious items on the ground. After holding it up for a second I puzzle at the item in my hand.
It's not exactly…
Mara takes the item out of my hand and starts questioning The Witch.
"What's all this for Marissa?"
The witch is silent for a second.
"You wouldn't understand Mara." The Witch says still gathering her dropped items.
"You can't be seriously doing this, are you? I thought- What did we do?" Mara asks a bit frantically.
Yikes looks like I was half right. She is definitely up to something but what was she actually doing?
"Mara it's not yours, your sister, or anyone's fault. It's all my fault."
"What? What does that mean? Just tell me, I, we need you!"
The witch looks up at me and Mara. Her eyes are sad but her face is trying to look happy.
I take a step back.
"Not anymore you don't. Sara has Ren and now you have Akari. I didn't even know you were here until you got the drop on me. You don't need me anymore."
"It's not true, that's not it at all! There is no way we would be here without you. Please just-" Mara gets interrupted by the witch hugging Mara before she can finish.
"I am needed elsewhere, I trust you will stay strong and become even stronger in my absence."
At this point, Mara tries to say something but she's unable from all the tears running off her face.
I take another awkward step back.
She gets up from the ground and says something softly to Mara before walking past her. She then walks past me as I try my hardest to avoid eye contact. It's not until she gets a few steps behind me that she speaks to me.
"Before I go I want you to promise me something"
I turn my head to face her but before I even say anything she continues.
"Please promise you'll keep Mara safe. She means so much to me that I want to be able to sleep soundly knowing you're out there protecting her."
Her voice makes me tense up, I feel my throat get caught on nothing. I don't feel scared yet I'm unable to speak.
After she relished she wouldn't get the response she was looking for she sighs and turns away.
"I see. Even so, I know she's safe as long as you two are together."
I stand there watching Her start to walk away. I also see Mara is still crying kneeling on the ground…
AHH FINE!
"I promise" I barely say.
The witch stopped for a second but doesn't turn around.
"What was that? She asks.
"I promise! To protect Mara with my life! Ok?! If you can't handle the responsibility then I'll do it!"
I hear as she quietly chuckles to herself.
"I knew you would"
After that, Marissa finally walks away until it's too dark to see her anymore. That was the last time that anyone ever saw her again…
Well, not really, I have no clue if anyone saw her again. Anyway, it's way too cold out here.
I help Mara inside and to warm up I show her how to make hot chocolate.
