Macie squinted her eyes at the mention of her friend's mutate, "...Dark beast?"
The name of the mutate wasn't sounding good or vibrant at all. Rather, it seemed to align with vileness, which made it easier to connect it with the Alexia that tried to murder them a while ago.
Suddenly, everyone became wary of Alexia. They had no idea what was happening to her but just the mention of her mutate was enough for them to be on their toes.
Theo asked the question that was in everyone's mind, "What exactly is this mutate and why does it have a name despite having an element-attribute ability?"
Answering his question, Caelus displayed her scan of Alexia, "[Dark Beast] is a special kind of named mutate. If you look at this scan, you would find most of the omega energy just beside her heart region. However, the second most concentrated spot is in her heart region. What makes Alexia's mutate so special is the ratio of the omega energy which is 50:30:20. 50% of the omega energy is concentrated beside the heart region. 30% of the omega energy is in the heart region. The remaining 20% is spread wide, enhancing her physical attributes continuously."
"So, what exactly is this [Dark Beast]?" queried William.
While it was nice to understand the ratio and all, that was not the exact answer they all sought.
"[Dark Beast] is a unique mutate theme. It is named this because it emphasizes the theme of a separate inner self. Hence, [Dark Beast] creates a dual personality. The second personality is born during the First Wave, and its particular purpose is to protect the first personality from any threat. The method [Dark Beast] takes is what differentiates it from any multiple personality cases. It is brutal and loves to kill, most of the time it is dependent on the negative thoughts of the host."
As Caelus kept explaining, the group looked at Alexia. If they understood well, something or someone was inside her and that person derived pleasure from slaughter.
In fact, they have already met this person!
Caelus concluded her assessment, "The mutates under [Dark Beast] are accessibility to both the main personality and the second personality. However, due to lack of moral restraints and dulled emotions, the second personality proves to be stronger than the main."
Theo straightened his face as he gripped his dagger firmly, "I want to know if she is a threat to the group."
"There is no answer to that question. It would depend on if Miss. Alexia can communicate with her second personality. If left unattended, yes, she would remain a threat," answered Caelus.
Theo went into deep thoughts for a while.
He looked at the others and discussed, "What do you think?"
Contrary to his expectations, they all agreed, "I don't see any problem."
"Yes, now that we have mutates, we can easily knock Alexia down if she goes cray-cray," said William.
They couldn't abandon someone like Alexia after knowing that she had no choice in all this. It wasn't like she chose what mutate to have or not.
A teardrop dripped from Alexia's eyes as she sniffed, "Thank you."
She could only say that before wiping the tears off her eyes. Macie grabbed her to a corner and comforted her there while the rest of the group were left alone.
All of a sudden, Theo eyes the screen, "Caelus, now that we have established our mutate, should I take it that we have a mission?"
"Yes."
"What is it?"
"The mission is to extract classified information hidden in The Aurora," revealed Caelus.
"What? The Aurora!" exclaimed William.
"The Aurora!"
"Wait. what is the Aurora?" asked Theo.
Was he the only one that had no idea of what this location was?
When he looked around, he realized he was truly the only one, which was a cause for embarrassment.
He cocked his head as he listened to William's explanation, "The Aurora was the headquarters of Helix Corp. You know Helix Corp, right?"
".....No," At this moment, Theo wished he was dead.
The others kept looking at him like he was some sort of oddball.
"Whew. Helix Corp was a local organization that was behind most of the hospitals in Little Grove. They focused mainly on the healthcare industry and were giants in Little Grove. They were young but it was speculated that, if given a decade, they would grow to a national company," added William.
Basically, they were the rising stars of Little Grove!
Even the reclusive Cain knew about them. For a while, they were all over the news, dominating major headlights and such. They were truly the pride of Little Grove.
Theo raised his brows, "Caelus, what information are we to find in….the Aurora?"
"It is classified."
"....And how do we find it?"
"As long I am connected to their private database, I would be able to extract this information," answered Caelus.
William scoffed, "I don't think it will be that easy getting to Aurora, would it?"
"Yes, I estimate that, apart from the normal issues associated with this mission, the main problem would occur when inside Aurora."
"Oh, what exactly is this problem?"
.
.
.
.
While they were conversing, Cain thought back to what he knew of Aurora.
It was unlike most big corporations and only stopped operating a week before the apocalypse. Reve made a wild guess that they probably weren't aware of the apocalypse before it started.
'Anyway, it isn't my problem,' soothed Cain.
He was more concerned with his mutate. Like a few others in the group, Cain had no idea what his [Zenith King] was. He could ask Caelus but he still wouldn't know how to activate the mutate.
He had a feeling that he needed to familiarize himself with [Zenith King] as soon as possible, especially when the group was already talking about the mission.
Once again, they would go to the outside world and this was exactly what Cain was terrified of. The abominations!
He hadn't forgotten that just outside the bunker were abominations that lost their sense of reason!
Cain shook his head, 'I shouldn't worry about that for now.'
Meanwhile, the group's conversation with Caelus had reached a crucial point.
Theo asked, "When should we begin the mission?"
"It is up to you," responded Caelus.
However, Theo could feel an intention hidden underneath the robotic words, "When do you think we should go for the mission?"
"When you have grasped your mutates," replied Caelus.
"How do we do that?"
"By training......"
Suddenly, William felt like the coming days wouldn't be so peaceful after all, "Oh, dear lord."
