First Mission

Two days later.

The group climbed above the bunker. A few of them had reluctant looks in their eyes as they breathed the fresh air of the surface ground.

"Are we really doing this?"

The voice belonged to Mark. The young teenager was dressed in a set of comfortable clothes. He wore a black cloak that covered his face and made him almost unrecognizable. It wasn't only him, the others also wore similar cloaks.

It was given to them by Caelus and was the only clothing item that was in the bunker. The purpose of the cloak was to protect them and also give them the ability to merge with their surrounding to a certain extent.

After all of them had gathered in the above cabin, Theo signaled them to keep quiet by putting his index finger on his lips.

He whispered, "We have gone over this. It is necessary unless you want to rot in the bunker. We need to get accustomed to our surroundings. Luckily, we have an advantage over the regular survivors; we are more informed!"

Two days ago, the group had engaged in their first-ever intense discussion. The topic of the discussion was whether they should start their training or not try to train at all.

Also, their training would align with their other needs like finding food supplies, cloth supplies, and ammunition materials.

There was a piece of equipment for making ammunitions in the bunker but there was no material like lead or copper. Hence, the group had to provide the materials on a constant basis or they would be left defenseless.

That was for later. Right now, they had to secure the perimeter of the bunker and place cameras in the surrounding. To do that, they needed to face their fears…...they needed to clear all the nearby abominations.

Theo sighed as he did a last-minute assessment, "Who here has killed an abomination before?"

Among all of them, only Cain raised his hand.

He wasn't lying. He did kill one and had seen a few of them killed before. Moreover, he had escaped from a group of abominations before.

When he thought back on things, wasn't he invisible?!

Unfortunately, his honest inner mind begged to differ, 'No, I'm just lucky.'

"How did you kill it?" asked Theo.

"I shot it in the head multiple times. To be safe, I also threw down, from the rooftop of an apartment complex."

Back then, he had panicked and spared no feelings for the abomination. Now that he was sane, he realized that what he had done was absolutely gory….if not too gory.

The rest looked at him in a stupor. Their gaping mouths were enough to express their surprise.

Although they had known that Cain had killed an abomination before, they had no idea it was this graphic.

Theo was the first one to break the silence, "As discussed, Cain will be the one leading us. He knows more about the abominations than the rest of us."

For two days, Cain had been sharing everything he knew about the abominations.

He also shared a guess that very soon bullets would prove to be ineffective against them and it would be wise to at least carry one cold weapon.

"Is that clear?" queried Theo.

The rest nodded in compliance.

"Good. Let's go. Gather in formation!" cheered Theo.

They quickly opened the door of the cabin and were greeted with the bright light of the day.

Their formation was simple. After two days, they weren't foolish to think they could depend on their mutates. Hence, they arranged themselves based on their roles.

Macie and Alexia stood at the center. Macie was their medic while Alexia protected her and also assisted the group in general. The real reason why Alexia was put in the center was that she was an unstable factor in the group. Letting her be among the front fighters or the back defenders might just instigate her mutate.

The front fighters were Theo, Cain, and Alexia. Whilst, the back defenders comprised of William, Mark, and Lara.

...…

The first thing Cain noticed when he walked past the cabin door was the excess of green life in the environment.

He thought to himself, 'Caelus was right. Over the time we were in the bunker, the earth mutated and the landscape changed. Who knows what else is foreign in this land?'

The three front fighters walked side by side. With Theo in the middle position, they were the first line of fighters and were responsible for moving the group.

They made no efforts to rush their slow footsteps. Cain had explained to them that abominations focus on their five senses. Once they heard any obvious sound, they would not stop until they found the source of the noise.

After a few minutes, the group stopped beside a tree. They had a reason for not moving forward.

Alexia brought out a phone from her pocket and plugged an external antenna in it. Her phone screen glowed with a green light.

Shortly after, Caelus's low voice could be heard from it, "Well done, Miss Alexia."

"It's not time for formality. Can you sense any abominations?" retorted Alexia.

"Scanning….Scanning....Scanning…...Scanning complete, your 50m radius is devoid of abominations. You can set up the cameras now," announced Caelus.

Alexia searched the backpack she brought with her for the cameras given to her by Caelus. She quickly climbed the tree and fixed the camera into it.

She did the same for the nearby trees until the group felt that this much was enough. They moved.

After a few seconds of roaming, the group suddenly stopped. Their breathing pattern stilled as they made no movement.

All of them could feel it…..

*Thud!* *Thud!* *Thud!*

They could feel the shaking of the earth. It was like a giant was walking close to them.

No, it wasn't a giant. It was a creature they were scared of.

All of them gripped their handguns as their sight quickly caught the silhouette of about ten feet in front of them.

Luckily, it was far in front and wasn't able to notice them but due to the loud noise it made, the group was well aware of it.

From the corner of his mouth, Theo whispered, "Do not make a noise."
