Chapter 18 - Queen Of The Hunters

“I bet she punished her soul for saving me the other day. I can’t blame her for that….”

“She did it per orders. I paid her services. There’s nothing more to it. Even if she hated you, she would save you. A little advice and lesson from me, never trust the quiet ones. They have more chances to betray you than the barking ones.” He somehow hinted to Drake. He trusted the man, but love being involved, he was reserved. Drake himself wouldn’t know if he would betray him.

“Dad told me the same.” Mika patted his hand.

“Master! We have problems! Sorry for interrupting! We need you!” yelled Odin at the main door.

“So much for the wedding night. And we didn’t consume it yet. My curse in life.” said Thomas, descending the bed, to see what Odin had to say.

“Pervert!” Mika stood up, too, following him, in her wedding dress. She did like him, but accepting intimacy, was a different deal. The idea repugned her; she wasn’t ready.

“Say.” Thomas opened the door for Odin to come in.

“Olivia called me. The houses are fighting. Lawrence is among them, stirring them up. Someone kidnapped Madam Dorothea. Drake is in the middle, to calm things up. He sent men after her. Werewolves attacked the venue. It doesn’t seem to be from the houses. The seventh house was hit, too. We have victims from all houses. Something bigger is happening.” Odin spoke in one breath, to speed the update and get Thomas solve the problems. He was the only one who had the means to put things back in order.

“My mother?! What?!” Mika went crazy. “I’m coming! Get me some clothes, Odin! Now!”

“You aren’t going anywhere.” Thomas stopped her.

“The hell I won’t! That’s my mother we are speaking of! I’ll get her back and kill everyone involved! I’m well trained. Don’t worry. You haven’t seen me in action.” She removed her tiara and jewelry, signaling Odin to get her clothes.

“Mika, it’s dangerous. You better stay here. I’ll deal with it and come back as soon as everything is cleared. Trust me.” He stopped her hands, holding them tight.

“It’s not that I don’t trust you! It’s my family! I will deal with my family’s problems! You deal with yours! It’s enough on your plate. Let me do my thing!” She wasn’t going to accept to stay put. It wasn’t in her nature. Her mother was her solely family member left.

Odin was confused. He wanted to follow her order, but Thomas had the last word. “Master?”

“Bring her clothes. If I leave her here, she will escape and do her want.” He replied, knowing Mika will be in greater danger if he wouldn’t allow her to come along.

“Yes, boss!” Odin bowed and followed Mika’s order.

“Stubborn. Do you even know the gravity of the situation? Did you ever have a real fight with creatures like them?” Thomas had no problem fighting them, he did that all his life. Experience screamed through his flesh and blood. But Mika seemed a baby thrown in the wolves’ mouth.

“I did. I have my hunter blood. I’m no ordinary person. I can’t let bad things happen to my mom. Give me your phone.” She asked with her hand raised to have his phone.

“What for?” He had no idea what a phone would help her with.

“Just give me the phone!” She yelled, asking the phone with her raised hand, too.

“Here.” He watched her dial a number with his hands in his pockets.

“Rick? Bring the men and my weapons. What we have expected is going down as we speak. Wait at the venue in the parking lot. Don’t interfere there, we have other business. Thomas will handle that.” She gave orders to the man, changing her eye color in that of the hunter she was.

“You are alright? He didn’t do anything to you?” Rick inquired.

“No, he’s not the bad guy. I haven’t identified the criminal yet. I’ll see you soon.” She ended the call and returned it to her husband.

Thomas’s image of her changed. He hadn’t expected this. “Your men?”

“You thought you are the only big shot in town, darling? I’m a hunter. I have my peers.” She pierced his eyes with hers. “Does that bother you?”

“No. You surprise me with each second, sweetie.” He smiled, approaching her.

“No sugary now, there’s no time for that.” She rejected him, opening the door, as Odin brought her clothes. She went for the bedroom to change her clothes.

“Odin?” Thomas was seizing with his eyes the bedroom.

“Yes, boss.” He was waiting his Master’s orders.

“Things will go south tonight. Hunters will surround the place. They are with us, but the houses’ leaders won’t like it. Call Drake to prepare them. It seems my wife is the new Queen of the Hunters worldwide, if Rick is at her orders. Prepare the car. We will be down in five.” He instructed, following Mika in the bedroom.

Mika was getting her pants on when Thomas entered. “Don’t you know how to knock?” She hurried dressing up, disturbed by Thomas’s lack of manners.

“I’m your husband. I don’t need permission to enter our bedroom. You’re the new hunters’ leader. Is that right?” He was watching her moves.

“Glad you figured that out. Less for me to tell.” She finished arranging herself, making a ponytail out of her hair.

“You are a very dangerous person then.” He concluded, still watching her moves.

“Aww! You are afraid, my love?” She mocked him.

“No.” He promptly answered.

“Then?” She shortened the distance between them.

“I thought those werewolves at your house were after me. I get now, you might have upset someone. Did you have missions so far, or only training?” He inquired.

“Since 15, about five a day. You do the math.” She answered without wavering.

“But you played the victim in front of me.” He pointed out what he thought.

“I didn’t. That night I was poisoned from a previous mission. I wasn’t in my right mind. I was affected by my mom, too. I had my guard down. I was weak.” She said without keeping things from him. “But I did control the hunter in me when Olivia got me back to life. I played victim then. I perceived she was reviving me. That’s why I haven’t kicked her. Then, I passed out.”

“What?! You were conscious?”
