I'm a Beta!

After performing well in his tests yesterday, Will was quite nervous for the other two that he was going to perform after school. He was lost I thought through the first half of his classes and during lunch he was the first to arrive and you could read the expression on his face as he was totally lost, you could even steal his phone and food without him realising it. Keisha, Connor and Brian came and met him holding a piece of food in his hand infront of his mouth and his eyes stared straight ahead. The thought that continued to run through his mind is what if he messes up his hunt. He startles the heard to early and he can't recover or the deer was able to escape his grasp or even fight back showing that he was a weakling, it just kept on repeating like it was a circle, never ending, just an infinite repetition.

"Will, Will, Will!" Connor yelled.

"Alright let me get this over with" Brian said as he removed the spoon in Will's hand and got ready for a slap.

"Do you really think that this is necessary? There could be another way to get him back" Keisha stated but obviously wasn't being listened to.

"Well all those other ways wouldn't be as fun" Brian said with a little chuckle.

"Here I go" Brian added before his palm landed on Will's face. This sent William flying of his seat which brought him back to reality.

He was surprised that he was on the floor and then he felt a sharp pain on his left cheek.

"How did I? When did I?, What happened?!" He exclaimed as he couldn't understand how he was on the floor as the last thing he could remember was sitting down and eating his food.

"Well we caught you day dreaming again and Brian decided to snap you back to reality with a good ol'slap which seemed to do the trick" Connor explained.

"Oh, that explains a whole lot, sorry about that" Will said.

"Ehh, no problem. It seems the pressure of the tests are taking a serious toll on you" Keisha added.

"It was the same thing that happened to me when I was undergoing all my own tests" Connor said.

"I guess it happens to all of us. I can also recall myself being under pressure too when I took my own tests but don't worry about it, all would be fine" Brian commented as he rubbed William's hair and ruffled it.

"Don't worry Will, it would all be okay" Keisha told Will as she held his hand and looked at him dead in the eye. Things were becoming serious between the two of them and Connor and Brian were getting a feeling that something between was going to happen between the two of them.

After the encouraging words Keisha said, he felt more confident and involuntarily started to blush. As Keisha saw this, she bowed her head and began to blush too. With Connor and Brian seeing this, they began to tease them.

"I knew it you two like eachother" Brian said with a light chuckle.

"It's enough Brain" Will said as he continued to smile.

"No way, we ain't stopping nothing until you two talk to eachother about your feelings" Connor said with a smile.

Keisha had nothing to say but stood up and walked away from them. Brian and Connor giggled as she left their presence.

"You see what I'm saying, you two like eachother but are to scared to do anything about it. Man up boy and do this thing" Brian said with confidence.

"Well, I don't know" Will replied.

"You don't know? Stick with Connor and I and we will help you. Alright bud?" Brian asked.

"Okay, I guess I'll give it a shot" William said nervously.

"Alright!!!" Brian and Connor cheered with joy.

They sat down and talked and talked and talked until their break time was exhausted.

William prepared himself to go for a hunt as Eric, Linda, Miranda and Caleb got ready to watch him track down his prey and kill it. William got ready as Brian, Connor and Keisha stood by his side giving him words of encouragement.

"You got nothing to worry about Will, you've practiced a lot and gotten really good so just go out and do your thing" Connor encouraged him.

"Yh bro, you got nothing to worry about. Just be calm, stay positive and let your inner wolf out" Brian said as he nudged his head into Will's.

"Thanks guys, I really appreciate it" William replied.

"Alright guys, Will we are waiting for you" Caleb announced.

"Alright, let's do this" William said with a while lot of confidence behind his voice. The four of them walked to go meet the others that were situated on the edge of a cliff as they could see through out their forest and two deer herds were situated in the plain and valley below.

"You have nothing to worry about Will. Your past hunts have been great so your good to go" Keisha said as she rubbed her head gently on his. He reciprocated the action as they arrived where the elders sat.

"This is as far as you can go Will, we won't let you go any further than here or it'd be cheating" Caleb explained.

"No problem, I won't let you down Keisha" William said before running off into the woods to begin tracking the prey of his choice.

The others accompanied Caleb to the cliff above to watch his progressed. They watched him as he looked through the woods for footprints . He looked on the floor for any signs of footprints around trees, some shrubs or any that went towards the river close by. The rest of them watched from above as he was just kilometers away from the herds. Where his nose failed, his ears would cover for him. The herds were moving from the east to west and William approached from the south so it was obvious that he wouldn't see any footprints from them and the other deer herd were far up in the north. With no footprints in sight, he stood still and turned his in all directions as he tried to listen for deer sounds or their foot steps as they moved about. The others watched from above as they tried to decipher what he was doing.

"What is he doing?" Caleb asked.

"Well you warrior won't understand as you hardly ever hunt" Keisha responded.

"What are you trying to say" Caleb snarled as the two usually argued with eachother. They were about to start brawling with eachother when Eric called them to order.

"Both of you stop it. What he's doing is quite simple but very effective. He's rotating his ears in all directions to pick up any sounds from the deer not to far from him as he can't pick up any footprints from them" Eric stated.

They continued to sit and watch as they noticed William's ears pointed in the north western direction which was in the direction that the herd closest to him was grazing. He stood still as he processed the deer calls that he heard. As soon as he confirmed that it was red deer, he made a beeline trotting towards their position and before you knew it he started jogging and soon enough, he picked up speed and began to run towards their direction. A grey blur is all you would see as he weaved his way through the forest and trees.

"It seems his plan worked" Miranda said with her Irish accent.

"Yep, he was well trained" Linda said as she glanced at Keisha.

He raced over to the deer's position and found them grazing from the tree line. He didn't want to come out from the darkness or risk being exposed. He trailed on the edge of the tree line as he tried to angle himself behind the herd. The wind did not blow so he was in the clear to start his approach towards the herd. He creeped out of the bushes slowly and moved systematically as he moved for about fifteen seconds to stop as he analyzed the the state of the herd. He continued his approach and laid in a tall cluster of bushes which hid his fur colour and concealed his face. He waited patiently for any of the deer to wonder close to him so he could make his kill quick but this test won't be any fun with out a twist.

As he waited patiently the rest of the pack admired the skill he displayed as he seemed to be in his element when he tracked and hunted the herd down. This made an impression on everyone in the pack that he was a natural in hunting and fighting and scouting were good feats for him but this was who he was. As he waited the wind began to pick up from behind him blowing his scent right into the nostrils of the deer and this made them panic and run. Connor, Brian and Keisha became worried as things turned around for the worst for him. Keisha hoped that he would be able to slavage things and make a good kill. As the deer began to run, William had no other choice than to give chase to them and was able to select a stag in his prime to make his kill. He was in-between all the deer as they all scampered away from him. With this, he was able to single out the stag and four other specs that followed his lead. He chased them desperately as they ran through the plains and into the thicket of the forest beyond the pack's sight. Keisha looked worried and looked at her dad to see whether they should go down and see for themselves but he was unmoved by the certain turn of events.

Under the forest canopy, William continued to chase the stag as the other does were able to get away from him. He closed effortlessly and tried the stag but he forgot to account for the horns and almost got jabbed. He quickly jumped away from the horns of the stag. With the male seeing that he the wolf got a little frieghtened, and decided to fight even though he was small in size compared to the wolf. Will saw this and knew that he had to fight his prey if he was going to be successful with this hunt. The stag came charging in with his horns but based on the training he got from Keisha, he was instructed to stand his ground in cases like this. As the male neared him, he slapped from the right side with a strong jab that sent the make rolling on the ground and William leaped on the deer.

Thirty minutes had passed and LW's friends became agitated as they haven't heard anything from their friend.

"Dad, shouldn't we go and look for him?" Keisha suggested.

"Agreed, it's been to long" Brian added.

"There's nothing to worry about" Eric said.

Soon enough, they saw a grey wolf hauling a stags carcass and appeared from within the woods. They couldn't believe Thier eyes, he'd finally done it, he killed a make deer. With Connor, Brian and Keisha seeing this, they bolted down the cliff to go and meet an unsuspecting William down below. As he dropped the stag and stretched his jaw before embarked on climbing up the step ascent before being pounced upon by Keisha. The two of them rolled for a bit as she embraced him closely.

"I'm so glad that you're okay" she remarked as Brian and Connor arrived the scene.

The four of them were full of joy as they gave up a victorious howl. As soon as they began, the others followed and he had left his impression on everyone as a strong and we'll capable hunter.

Linda and Keisha prepared a nice deer barbeque as they all celebrated Williams victory. After the food had been cooked, the elders in the pack went in to delineate on William's position and rank that he would be given in the pack. Keisha, William, Brain and Connor were left outside as they dinned and ate. Keisha was leaning on William as both of them drank and ate while Brian and Connor had gotten into one of their big anime arguements again. All the two could do was watch them as they savoured the moment. Both of them could tell what eachother was thinking without saying a word at all.

After fifteen more minutes, Caleb stormed out of the house transforming and running of into the bushes, clearly something had angered him to make such a display. Linda wanted to chase after him but Eric held her back.

"Forgive Caleb's display. He's just uncomfortable with our decision and would need to adjust" Eric stated.

"And so with the talks that I've had with the other elders as the pack, we have decided to give William Laire the position of a hunter and tracker in the pack" Eric announced which filled the others with joy.

"He would also maintain Connor as his patrol partner" Eric added and the pair shared a handshake amongst themselves. This was all a preamble to the main thing everyone waited to hear, his rank.

"With a final verdict being given, we have decided to give William...the rank...of..a beta!" Eric announced. This took the rest of them by surprise as their minds were absolutely blown away.

Instantly, Brian and Connor Leaped on him and brought him to the ground as they all laughed. Keisha was happy but not as happy as everyone expected her to be but it wasn't noticeable to all but William. Eric, Linda and Knockout walked down the stairs to go and congratulate William on his rank and all.

The final verdict seemed to cause an upset within the pack as Caleb obviously did not support this and Keisha seemed to be sad for some reason that was still unknown. This proved to be a huge factor that could affect the future of the pack.
