The Death Of A Veteran

Everyone turned to Brent's position hoping that he hadn't kicked the bucket only to find out that Miranda dove in at the last second and took the hit straight to the neck. Brent turned around to see his mom take her last breath before transforming back into a human, and so today marked the end of their war veteran's tale.

"Owww, it looks like I hit the wrong one, time to correct my mistake" Tasha said preparing to punch Brent but William came flying in sinking his teeth into her shoulder.

He used his momentum to throw her into Armin and Rex knocking them off their feet. Brent stood up steaming, he was going to have her head fro killing his mom. With no control he sprinted towards them with the intension to kill, revenge was the one word he could hear as he came for them. The vampires knew that they had bitten on something they couldn't chew and ran back to the mountain. William, Ethan, Mary and Brian followed while the others went to the aid of their fallen comrade hoping that she could still be saved. Brent ran chasing and picking of any vampire that wasn't fast enough to keep away from him. Soon his pupils shrank and foam formed around his mouth signifying his anger and rage, his speed frieghtened William who held the spot of fastest wolf in the pack but what can be say, a wolf driven by rage wasn't a wolf you'd want to stand in his way. Armin and the others hauled their add almost getting caught multiple times before hopping into the trees. They could finally see the mountain in sight and leaped over the sixth foot drop that deprecated them. Brent wanted to follow but was tackled by Brian ended my his chase, they couldn't make the jump in their wolf forms and even if they did, the vampires would greatly out number them so the only thing left to do was to turn back. With their heads down they made their way back to the mountain and a howl from Linda stopped Brent in his tracks, Miranda was declared dead. He immediately rushed away from his pack mates to be alone as the others went ahead, there was nothing they could do, the best was to leave him alone.

Brent ran all the way to a cliff before transforming back to a human as tears streamed down his eyes, he could t believe that his mom was dead, how would he face his siblings or even tell them. He sat down on the ground sobbing at the loss if his mom, he could remember her telling him to stand down but he refused, if he had heeded to her instructions would she still be alive? If he had fought harder and not messed up, would she still take the blow for him. The thought of her death being his fault made the pain grow more and more and the feeling of the loss even greater.

"It's all my fault....it's all my fault....." Brent said sobbing on the ground.

"I let the family down, I let the pack down, in let everyone down, it's all my fault..."

As Ethan cried the wolves gathered around their fallen comrade and gave a kind howl that filled the howl forest meeting the ears of Ethan and All the vampires at their mountain.

The vampires heard the howls that echoed from the wolves and were filled with joy that their mission was a success. Tasha, Armin and Rex walked up to Vladimir that sent for them to get a briefing on how the mission went.

"From the howls I hear, I think the mission went very well" Vladimir said with a pleased look on his face.

"Yes sir, it did. We even managed to kill one of those little dogs" Tasha stated with a smile on her face.

"Well, is it their vampire veteran?" Vladimir inquired as her death would give them an edge in taking down wolves as her experience would make the wolves short handed and get more hands on experience.

"Well I don't know which one it was but it was brown with a bit of black markings on the-" Tasha described before Vladimir interrupted her.

"I did not as for a DESCRIPTION! I simply asked who it was"

"Yes sir it was her" Armin spoke up.

"Well in that case, today was a victory that we can capitalise on in the nearest future. I can see us taking over this forest with ease. Her death is a blessing to us all, Rex, Armin, get drinks for us. It's time for us to celebrate!" Vladimir said happily as he walked out to get a view of the forest.

"Soon this would all be mine" Vladimir said to himself with Rex, Tasha and Armin leaving as he stood out and admired the forest waiting eagerly for the day he shall rule the forest once more.

Keisha cuddled William as the two sat on a rock behind the house reliving their memories with the one that they called knockout. Mary and Connor stated with Kent in a guest room as he recovered from his injuries and tried their best to hide their emotions from him. Apart from Brent, Kent looked up to Miranda and she held a special place in his heart as a role model, a friend, a teacher and a mother figure so they hid her death from him as much as they could until he recovered and was able to bear the news. Brian just sat down on a sofa in the living room and mopped around cause he just couldn't handle the death. Eric was silent as he chopped logs of wood to cope with the loss and Linda just locked herself up in her room and cried at the death of her best friend. A car screeched in and parked in front of the house and Janet and Brody ran out their car to see their son and their girl friend sitting on a rock all sober and they saw Eric chopping wood which was never a good sign at all and the cries from the house confirmed it all. Janet fell into Brody's hands and both collapsed to the ground in teas as their old friend finally laid to rest. The news had already reached her children as Eric told them of their mishap and they boarded the next flight to Durham to see for themselves what had actually happened.

"I still can't believe that she's gone"

"Yh me too, she was like a role model to us, our combat trainer Will but now she's gone. The consequences of being a wolf is finally clear to us" Keisha said with a shaky tone.

William noticing this hugged her tightly and affirmed her, "Yes the consequences are clear but we all know what we got into when we accepted to become wolves and I'm sure that she knew it too"

"Yeah, and she's known this for a long while since she was the one that trained our parents and all of us too but what can we do know, may her soul rest in peace"

William noodles to his girlfriend's words and the two continued their talk. Brody and Janet walked to meet Eric who was chopping wood like a lumberjack.

"So it's true huh" Brody said to Eric who just nodded.

"Tell me, how did she die, I want to know" Janet said trying to hide her tears.

"We hot into a fight with some vampires and she died protecting her son from the killer blow of a pure blood and that's how we got here" Eric narrated with no emotion.

"How, why, weren't they enough wolves to cover? Why couldn't the others help?" Janet questioned with fire in her voice.

"Well your son was held up in school and by the time they got there sufficient damage had been done plus we had a casualty on the battlefield that we had to protect and we got invaded by some rogue wolves and it took sometime to chase them away" Eric replied.

"That's not an excuse!" Janet shouted as she stood up to her feet and was going fight Eric.

"Well what did you want me to do? My hands were tied, my wolves were tied there was nothing we could" Eric replied but Janet was pissed off even more by his lack of compassion and was going to hit him.

"You could've...done more!" She said before shoving Eric to the ground.

This caused William to stand up to his feet startled by his mother's outburst, this surprised Keisha as well. Connor heating the commission rushed out to see what was going on and Linda just looked down from her window. Brody quickly restrained his wife before things got out of hand as she begun to cry. He took her into the house and Eric sag on the ground rocking himself and began to tear. Keisha immediately ran over to his side to console him. She signalled William that she'd have to take him in and calm him down and with all the wolves out their territory would be up for grabs and since William was free he would go on patrol to take his mind of Miranda's death. He ran into the bushes and transformed running quickly around to do a total perimeter run of the whole forest by himself.

Connor walked back into Kent's room as he wiped tears from his eyes. With Kent asleep he and Mary now had the room to themselves and so they sat down and faced eachother.

"Man, I knew when I signed up to be wolf it'd be dangerous but now I'm facing the reality" Mary said to a quiet Connor who said nothing but stare down at the floor.

"Yes, but how are we going to tell that to Kent, how's her family going to handle it" Connor said with his gaze still towards the floor.

"I don't know but when those challenges come, I'm pretty sure that we'll be able to tackle them"

"But why, why did it just have to be now like why. Do people just have to die like that? She had every right to live but they just had to take it away" Connor said expressing his feelings and began to tear. Miranda helped him through a hard time when he first transformed into a wolf and served as moral support to him. She helped him become a better person and a better wolf all round.

With Connor in tears Mary didn't know what to do at all. She had never seen a guy this emotional before and couldn't really do anything to calm him down and acted on impulse pulling him in for a kiss to shut him up. Connor was surprised but commited to it. The two kissed for some seconds before Mary finally pulled away and walked out of the house, at least she got him to shut up and keep him thinking about something else.

She walked out and thought about what she had just done. Was that really just to shut him up was there something more to the good looking brown haired boy. Was it his smile, his jokes or his personality as a wolf or how prowess as a wolf. She had completely ignored all her feelings for him and pushed it all down but today it took control of her and displayed itself. She sat down thinking about it over and over and over and realised the way she left him, would make their entire relationship awkward. While she thought, Brent fit emerged from the woods with his eyes red as he cried his life out in the woods. Mary called to him but he didn't answer, he just walked into the house and sat on the sofa with Brian. Meanwhile, William had covered half of the Hamsterly woods and when he got to Miranda's side he just stopped and laid on the ground whining with Miranda's memories flooding in and soon his old friends appeared, the fix family with their pups looking bigger than the last time he saw them and they came to him with the pups climbing on him. The mother and father just watched the pups play and keep their distance from the massive wolf. Among the pups, a female seemed to keep them in check and was the boss over her brothers, just like how Miranda was over them and so he named her Miranda with her white spot on her forehead. The boys had darker red coats on their neck with one looking like a lightning bolt and the other like an 'L'. He called the one with a lightning bolt Thor and the one with an 'L' Luther. After a couple of minute, the father barked at them signifying that it was time to go. The pups reluctantly came down from Will's body as they had ruffled his fur and played with his tail and ears. When the fox family left, he continued his perimeter run around the forest. The house was solemn and quiet and things were about to get intense as Brent's Brother and sisters pulled up in front of their house.
