Aptitude Test

With Wein holding her hand, Lady Amy arrived at Doctor An's office.

Where the doctor resides was a very simple house, but what made it different was its interior. It was not like the other houses, and was more like a working space. This building was chosen in order for Doctor An to manage people who were getting in.

That was not the only thing. Because it was not Lady Amy's first time coming here, she was only a little bit amazed again. But Wein was different.

With his mouth agape, he stared like he was seeing something for the first time.

No matter how he looked at the inside of this building, it was a little different than what he was used to. It looked new. The bricks were clean, maybe they were new. There were also logs and planks of wood that was obviously just got cut down a few days ago. Normally, the inside of the houses around this town were not this good.

"I heard the knights and adventurers that arrived three days ago started cutting the trees down in the forest, so they could make greater houses," Lady Amy explained, "Well, there was nothing wrong in the previous houses, but this is also good."

Wein was silent as he looked at Lady Amy.

He acted the same way until they arrived at the room where Doctor An was going. There was no one but him it seemed.

"Good afternoon, Doctor An," Lady Amy greeted with a bow. Seeing her do that, Wein also bowed with her.

"Good Afternoon," Seeing the kid with him, Doctor An was quick to notice, "I guess he's the one who hasn't taken the magic aptitude test yet."

Lady Amy then guided Wein to the area where there was a table and two chairs on either side of the same table. On top of the table, Docto An put a big crystal orb which seemed as light as feather.

Wein would have thought it was heavy if he did not witness Doctor An carry it like nothing.

Lady Amy then sat on the other empty seat.

"Boy, put both of your hands onto the orb in front of you. The orb will emit light if you have the flow of magic in you. The corresponding color of the light will show what element you excel in."

At the very same time, Kara cannot really decide to choose to summon his S-Familiar to spy on Wein and find out his powers. Kronel residing within Wein could notice it again.

Thus, if he thought about that, it was better to get inside himself.

Before Wein could totally put his other hand on the orb, Kara walked in to the room.

Everyone looked at him, but they didn't mind him. Except Wein of course.

Wein looked at Kara suspiciously for a second as if he had powers already.

But a cough came out of Doctor An's mouth that the boy should put both of his hands already.

Wein then put both of his hands together, and subconsciously closed his eyes.

'If I do not have any magic powers…' he thought.

Wein wanted to develop magic too, as he was one of the two eldest brothers in the orphanage. And Lucian who was one too, awakened magic.

Then as he opened his eyes slowly, he could see something emanate from the orb.

'Hmmm,' he was stunned, but also happy.

He immediately looked over at Lady Amy and he could tell she was shocked too.

"Oh," at this moment came the amazement of Doctor An, "To think there is another potential mage in this town is unreal."

'And it is someone with greater potential too,' Doctor An thought, looking at Wein.

He then noticed that Kara who had been watching from the side all this time had also been looking at Wein.

The corners of Wein's mouth started to move, turning into a smile. A wide smile.

The orb was glowing.

"A shadow aptitude, huh? And it's quite powerful." Doctor An said.

Doctor An continued nodding, and then he glanced at Kara.

Doctor An naturally knew what type of magic does Kara possess. It was Shadow magic too.

Thus, Wein awakening the Shadow magic was quite the great coincidence.

'The other boy Lucian awakened the fire element, too so it is quite interesting.' Doctor An thought.

Kara then walked over to Doctor An.

Doctor An do not really know why Kara went here again, but this was a good time to introduce him. The orphanage was a little far from the town thus, they were not really aware of what happened here last time.

"Lady Amy, Boy Wein, let me introduce you as well, this is Kara, the mage that protected this town."

"I see, on behalf of the orphanage, we could not thank Lord Kara more." Lady Amy bowed.

Wein was so happy right now, so he did not notice.

Lady Amy was nervous about this.

'Natural mages are the prideful kind.' She thought.

With a turn of her head, she glanced over Wein and said softly as if saying the boy do not know what he was doing so he must forgive him,, "Wein, at times like this—"

But he was cut off.

Doctor An laughed, "No, it's okay. Lord Kara is not like that. In fact, he had not the slightest interest in things like this."

Doctor An was caught laughing for a while. Only then did he stop when he saw Kara nodding his head.

"That's right. I'm not like that if you could understand, so please get up." Kara said.

The gaze of Lady Amy considerably changed at this point.

"I see," she said as if she could not believe it.

Indeed, back when she was still training to become a lady of the Cloth, most mages in the City of the Duke were not really prideful creatures. Even if there were some, they were a lot of good mages that were like normal humans, but she had found out that the further you were away from the City, bad and evil mages would pop out.

They were very normal.

Thus, since it had been a long time since she last saw a really good mage, she was only acting out of habit.

"I told you too, right? I'm also a mage and I don't think of those kind of things as well." Doctor An said.

Lady Am stared at the Doctor blankly.

"I thought you were joking so, I can't help it."

Doctor An almost choked on his own breath.

"That's rude. I'm really a mage. Lord Kara, may I?"

Kara nodded.

As soon as Kara gave the permission, the fingertips of Doctor An burned with blue phoenix flames, almost too beautiful and calm to think it was even real.

Lady Amy was shocked.

"Woah!" Wein suddenly shouted.

It was the first time he had seen magic!

"Could I do that too?" the boy asked, knowing full well he had the aptitude to do magic.

Doctor An took notice of this, and looked over at Kara.

Kara then crouched at the eye-level of Wein, and said something.

"No, that is not your aptitude. Your powers are of the shadow element, so you could do things like this."

Kara opened his palms and in an instant, a dancing whirl of shadows emerged beautifully from his hand.

"And you get to spend time with me now."
