New Connections

The trip was not as easy as it had been the day before. Each person was tired and sore. The terrain was getting increasingly unstable the further they went. Several times they slipped on loose soil or decaying leaves. Slaton stayed near Brenna to help her when she slipped. It was not easy for any of them. Only when Layford was in wolf form did he manage the terrain well. Slaton told him to stay in form for a while. He kept Miakoda close in case Brenna needed her.

At one point, Brenna heard the rustle of the leaves high in the trees. She looked up as the wind flowed through the labyrinth of brown and green. She smiled and then she saw it. The bird was there high in the tree. It moved as though it was letting the currents of the air move it before it dove down and repeated the cycle. It was then she remembered Sakari’s statement about a shield around them.
