Broken Hearts

There would be no more emails from his brother. There would be no more phone calls. Tears flowed down Layford’s face as he faced his sorrow and stopped trying to hold it in. He had never told Slaton how much he looked up to him. Slaton had been the one who had encouraged him when he first started school. He was the one who coached him in football and basketball so he would be prepared to try out for the school teams. Slaton had teased him about the girls, but Layford really didn’t mind. He even hadn’t minded when Slaton and Brenna were kissing. It was uncomfortable, but he enjoyed seeing his brother in love. Brenna was perfect for him. Layford had never seen Slaton so happy. Now, he was gone.
