Chapter 3
Inferior
I'm half-convinced that it was my saviour I saw last night. His hair and built are telling me so. But he was too far and dimmed to confirm it. I could be mistaken. But if it's him, then he's got a girlfriend?
I shook that off my thoughts. I just opened my eyes after sleep and then here I am, already thinking of another guy!
I stretched out a bit before getting my phone from the side table because it lit up a while ago and I saw Andrus' name on it.
Andrus:
Good morning, babe! How are you doing there? I stopped texting because I want to give you time with your friends there but I already miss you. Please call me if you have time. I love you!
Me:
Good morning! I just woke up! I miss you too! Love you!
I did not wait for his reply anymore. I immediately climbed off the bed to run to the bathroom. Ivy and Thea weren't already in bed when I woke up. But they left a note with the time written on it saying they went to eat breakfast. It's just 15 minutes ago. I still can make it there.
“Mm, did you sleep well?”
I was yawning when Thea asked me that. I sat on the chair she pulled and the smell from different morning dishes filled my nostrils.
My mouth twisted. “Not at all. But I'm good!”
“You should sleep more, August. You look a bit pale.”
I bit on my bread and turned to her. “I'm okay, Thea. I just need two or three cups of coffee.”
“You sure?”
“Mm!” And sipped on my coffee.
“Okay, girls!” Ivy snapped. “What's next? I mean, where do we go next?!”
Ivy looks so excited about whatever she has in mind. But I have already mentally planned for what I'm going to do next.
“You guys can go wherever you want, I'm staying.”
Ivy's mouth dropped. “Again!? Come on, Augustine! You are not gonna stay there sitting for the whole three days we're here, are you?”
I rolled my eyes.
“I will. That's because I went here to unwind!”
“Unwind is not equal to sitting!” she said exaggeratedly. “You have to also enjoy!”
“Ivy, let's just let Augustine, okay?” Then Thea turned to me. “But I agree with Ivy. You have to enjoy it, too. Their rides here are so great!”
I let out a sigh. They both looked hopeful.
“Okay! But maybe later afternoon. Or tomorrow!”
I first took a bath before going to my already favorite spot on the beach. I just love how I can view a lot from there while being discreet from everyone's eyes. Plus, there's a tree that can protect me from the sunlight.
“We'll just try banana boating, okay! You take care!”
I waved and watched them go excitedly until they were gone. There were fewer people and they're all busy swimming and chitchatting. The sun is not that hot, too. My friends have gone on rides. Guess what? It's time for me to search for my saviour!
Filled with excitement and interest, I got up from sitting and run to the resto-bar where I saw him. I know he's probably not there but who knows? Maybe they rented that place for a couple of days or he went back to grab a drink? If not, then I can ask the waiters! And even the manager! Nevertheless, I'm gonna find him!
Since it's morning, I already expected to see fewer people and I was right. There are only three tables with one or two customers.
It's like I got lost because I suddenly don't know what to do. I have no actual plans aside from the fact that I'm dying to know who I saw last night.
That's why I decided to grab a table to order some drinks. It's a good idea! I can ask multiple questions to the waiter while I take my order!
“Yes, Ma'am?” the waiter I called up asked.
I looked up at him after I skimmed through the menu. His smile faltered and his light-skinned face turned red when our eyes met.
I know I affect boys so I'm gonna use that now to get the answers I'm looking for.
I smiled back at him sweetly.
“Hello, uhm, do you serve wine here? I cannot see one in the menu,” I said in the saddest and cutest voice I could make.
“A-Ah...” He looked flushed. “I'm sorry, Ma'am, but we don't serve wine or any alcoholic beverage for dine-in until 3 pm. B-But you can choose light drinks available on the menu. We also have food and snacks made especially for customers like you!”
I pouted my lips and looked back at the menu. It's true. There are notes in the upper part saying they only serve alcohol after 3 pm.
“Oh...” I turned to him again with an upset face. “I really wanna drink. You know what? You look familiar!”
His eyebrows raised, a bit shocked at my sudden change of topic.
I thought of saying more things but screw that! I need to get to the point!
“I'm not sure but I think I saw you here last night! Is that you, though?”
“Ma'am?” He then looked clueless. “I wasn't here last night.”
“Really??? So who's that?! I mean, he's also cute!”
I saw him swallow hard.
“Uh, maybe it was one of the customers last night. T-They, uh, rented this place f-for the night.” He chuckled stuck at my last sentence.
I nodded intently with my mouth slightly opened.
“Do you know him by any chance? Well, my friend wants to know him. I just wanna help.”
He nodded slightly.
“I'm not sure, Ma'am—”
“Oh, drop the ‘ma'am’, please!” I snapped, laughing. “Just August!”
He chuckled. “You can ask our manager about that guy if you want.”
My mouth dropped at that exaggeratedly. This is it! I'm one step closer! It's just gonna take me one more smile to get to the real deal.
I flashed him my smile. My eyes darted at the counter because I'm sure the manager will come from that area. But as soon as my eyes went to the girl, standing sophisticatedly at the counter, I knew I didn't have to talk with the manager.
The hair, her physical appearance, and her star dangle told me she's that girl my saviour was with last night!
I quickly turned to the waiter.
“O-Oh! No, it's fine!” I shook my head. “I'll just take my order.”
He smiled at me but I couldn't anymore compose myself because, sooner or later, my saviour will arrive.
After I gave my orders, I put on sunglasses so he wouldn't be able to recognize me. The lack of people in this resto-bar is adding to the tension I'm feeling! I'm pretty glad that my table is at the far left, which is not an attention-seeking spot. Phew!
The girl is wearing a beige sundress and white flats. She's with her pouch and her phone. Her curly, black hair was styled perfectly. I dislike curly hair so much because they look haywire and messy, at least, for me. But her curls look like it was rolled in a gold roller with virgin coconut oil. And her face, despite the distance we have, is screaming of beauty.
She looks so stunning despite her simple dress. I looked at myself. My outfit right now is so basic. Dark short pants, a blue square top, and a pair of white sandals.
For a fleeting moment, I felt inferior. I don't know. This is not me. I know I am better than anyone could say. But getting defeated by my insecurity...
The waiter came back with the tray of my order and his smile. I couldn't return the smile because of the sudden turn of my mood. I wanted so bad to just go and leave whatever I need to but that's just wrong.
“I'm sorry, I need to go! Can I just take these out?” I said to which he immediately agreed.
I left the resto-bar feeling defeated. I couldn't even believe I left because of what I have just seen! Okay, enough! In the very first place, I'm not supposed to be searching for that guy! This is just so embarrassing! And I've got a boyfriend, for heaven's sake!
I groaned frustratedly and went as far as I could. Not at my usual spot. Or our room. Not even at another resto-bar. Just far from everything.
