Biologist Elain Mavka is sent to a foreign planet recently named Miea.  A place where she gets free range to explore, document, and report the findings of site 27-43. Otherwise known as the Mushroom Forest. What seems to be beautiful and mysterious turns out to be just that. Where Elain is the first explorer to make contact with humanoid aliens. Though are they really the aliens when she is on their planet?

Her only company on this journey is young Milo Zephyr, who is still in his training wheels, and Selcouth, a companion she encounters soon after their arrival. Well, them and the strange feeling that they are being watched.

On another side of the spectrum, the older sister (Enya) of her infant brother (Kenton) are looking for a way to survive up in the station effectively named Head Quarters. Her with an assistant's job to keep everything in order on the ship. Then, with no explanation, there was a sudden blaring siren and flashing red lights. A guard she knew, who was a few years older than her, marches them straight to an escape pod. Sending them to a planet they've never known before.

The three of them landed on completely unexplored territory of this planet and it didn't take long for Enya to stumble into a nine-foot monster of a creature. Or, rather, it stumbled into her.

“You can’t just introduce a creature to enough heavy drugs to pass him out,” Elain tried to explain in a loud manner. Both of the Sherb women were leading the woman through the set-up camp. Many different tents and vehicles were set up in a curve around the front of this site’s main laboratory. She blinked a few times to make sure her exhausted mind didn’t make any of this up, getting the confirmation that this was in fact not an illusion. Others have made their way to this site just as they had. Which was great, but it meant she had to convince even more people that Brotte was not any sort of threat.
