Demon cultivation and bloodlines

Ray powerlessly slumped on the ground after the berserk time period was over. His friends were worried and shocked seeing him lying on the ground but were unable to help since there were still some low-level demon beasts alive.

"I'll go and check on him!" said Kai as he ran off to Ray.

"What happened to you? Quickly drink the healing potion!" asked Kai worriedly as he helped Ray move to a safe position.

Ray foolishly laughed and said, "Hehe.. its side effects of my berserk skill which I gained. I will be fine after 2 hours. Just protect me during this time!"

Kai heaved a sigh of relief and he glared," Drink the healing potion right now!!"

"Why are so naggy?"

"Ouch..ouch... I will drink it..." whimpered Ray in pain as Kai twisted his ears.

"Hmph.. I will write down this grudge in my notebook.." said Ray angrily..

"Whatever!" replied Kai as he just shrugged.

gulp...gulp..

Ray supported his body on the wall as he sat down quietly and waited for others to finish the beasts.

Soon after finishing off the beasts, his friends came back.

"Man!! You gave me a scare!! Are you alright?" asked Leo in as usual his comical way.

Ray waved his hands," I'm fine! I need rest! Here, half of the healing potion is left. Share it !"

The other nodded as they also sat around Ray and gave Nathan and Lucas the remaining healing potion.

"I don't need it. It's a skin injury. Nathan, have it!" replied Lucas as he refused to take the healing potion.

Nathan knew of Lucas's stubborn personality, so he didn't force him and drank it alone.

"What was the level of that beast?" asked Lucas suddenly.

"Level 5!"

"There's already level 5 beasts in only a few days?" asked Leo shocked.

Ray's face was grim.

"Yeah! Demon beasts have it easier to cultivate as they rely on blood and flesh. They follow body and blood cultivation, unlike spirit cultivation by humans. They can automatically cultivate their fleshly body as long they devour any treasure or humans or their own kin. Moreover, when they form the core, elemental powers are only used to attack rudely and directly." replied Ray patiently.

"So that means they can't use any skills or techniques?"

"They can when they humanize. At the time of reaching the nascent soul stage and encountering thunder tribulation, they have two choices- either to retain their beast form or to transform to humanized demon form. Those with humanized demon form has higher status and prestige and are stronger than others as they can practise different skills! Moreover, they already have high control of their elements and only lacked a proper skill or techniques to channelize them, so they become immensely powerful."

Others were amazed by the explanation.

"By the way, what is blood cultivation?" asked Lucas.

"It's about bloodline. Every demon descendant inherits the bloodline of their ancestors. The higher the bloodline, the higher is the power and prestige of their clan. A higher bloodline has total control over those who have lower bloodlines. Lower bloodlines are cannon fodders and are high in numbers while higher bloodline demons are the true controller and the rulers! Thus every descendant goes rigorous training to invigorate their bloodline potential!" replied Ray as he glanced at Kai sneakily...

As shrewd as Kai immediately noticed his sneaky behaviour.

He squinted his eyes and threateningly asked," Want another beating huh? What are you hiding from us?"

Ray immediately sweated... Ah.. the pain of being weak...thought Ray as he managed out his sweetest smile...

"Haha..bro... it's nothing. I will tell you. don't beat me up.."

"Hmph! Be quick" glared Kai.

To him, Ray was his younger brother, so it was justified to scold him and of course, Kai did that numerous times. Ray's relation with Kai was the best of them as their character was almost alike. He was like Ray's mentor and big brother.

"You have fire eagle's bloodline, so do your mother!" replied Ray hesitantly.

The scene was suddenly silent as Leo suddenly pointed at Kai and yelled comically "OMG!! Demon spy?"

"Demon spy my foot!" yelled Kai angrily as he threw his shoe over at Leo.

Others snickered at that after all that guy deserved it!

"Well, it's not like that! There's no reproductive isolation between humanized demon beasts and humans. There are various humans with demon beasts bloodlines and it makes them stronger. Like in the case of Kai, even though the bloodline is impure, but it will help him grasp better mastery over fire spells!" informed Ray.

"Cool man! Hehe!" laughed Leo as he gave Kai a thumbs up!

Kai ignored him and asked, "Is there a specific way to improve my bloodline? Will I become a beast if my bloodline becomes pure?"

Ray scratched his head and replied, "Well I'm not sure how to improve them. No, your ancestor was a hybrid. Now generations after, almost demon bloodline is obliterated or mixed with human genes and blood and it predominates now. Even if your bloodline becomes 100% pure, you can almost undergo beast transformation to gain a more powerful boost. You will still remain human in essence!"

He continued saying, "This method was later invented by some ancient human cultivators to defend against the demon beasts. They kidnapped the hybrids and made them breed with humans to create humans like you with demon bloodlines. They were created for war. You can assume them as biological weapons. They were not welcomed in human society with pure human bloodlines! Pure blooded humans wanted their power to defend their measly lives but in their heart, they called them monsters."

Kai seriously listened to Ray's explanation but secretly clenched his fists.

"But I think this idea is too back-dated! If the bloodline is giving you power then why not accept it rather than maintain a frail ego?! I'm actually envious of you! I wish to have a bloodline too!" said Ray with a look of yearning.

Others also nodded with his reasoning.

Kai's lips curved into a smile as he heard Ray.

At least his best brothers didn't discriminate against him...
