"Please tell me you're not going hunting alone," I said. I stood in the kitchen, the counter littered with everything I needed to make an omelet, but then Trent announced he had to hunt, and my appetite vanished.
"I'm not," Trent said. "Colt's going with me."
That made me feel slightly better, but still, the idea of him not being here with me had my heart racing in a frenzied panic. What if something happened to him while he was feeding? What if he was attacked by Dante or his army? What if he walked out that door and never came home?
I stood with my back to him, staring at all the food that was no longer appealing, and gripped the edge of the counter. Trent came up behind me and slipped his arms around my stomach.
"Chloe, honey," he said softly at my ear. "It's going to be okay. I won't be gone long."
