Chapter 458: Apologies, Part 2

I cut into the omelet and took a bite, humming with satisfaction. "This is so good," I said.

"Did you expect anything less than perfection?" he asked.

I rolled my eyes and took another bite. "You know you don't have to cook for me every time you're here, right?"

He shrugged. "I don't mind. Besides, it's kind of our thing, isn't it?" He gently nudged my shoulder with his.

"Well, thanks," I said.

We fell silent as we ate, and in those moments, I was able to find a little bit of peace. If I tried hard enough, I could pretend it was last summer, that I'd just gotten to the cabin for the first time. Things were a lot simpler back then.

Of course, back then, I hadn't been married, nor had I been carrying Trent's babies. Without thinking, I rubbed my belly and smiled faintly. Simpler didn't always mean better. Despite everything going on, I was ridiculously happy.
