Two days later, the twins and I were released from the hospital with clean bills of health and instructions to follow-up with Doctor Mattias in a week. Trent had packed all of us into his truck and drove us home, and walking into the cabin with our girls in tow was surreal.
For the first time ever, I was truly home. I finally had everything I'd ever wanted - a husband I loved more than anything, who loved me just as fiercely, two beautiful daughters, a house I adored, friends and family who I knew I could call for anything anytime.
The reality of all that hit me hard, and I was overcome with emotion. Tears sprang to my eyes, and I wiped them away, but not before Trent saw them.
He tilted his head. "You okay?"
I nodded. "Never better." I smiled and walked farther into the house.
I gently set Sarah's car seat on the couch, and that's when I noticed the kitchen table piled high with various gift baskets, vases of flowers, and balloons.
