I paced Sean's living room, my erratically thumping heart lodged in my throat. My hands trembled, and I couldn't seem to draw in a deep enough breath. Why was I so nervous? Probably because tonight was the night I'd die and be reborn as a vampire.
"He's not going to let anything happen to you," Jax said.
I gasped at the sound of his voice and turned to face him. He stood in the doorway between the living room and kitchen, arms crossed. His gaze was intense. So much for needing a few minutes to myself before Trent changed me.
"I know that," I said.
"Then why do you keep bouncing from fear to nerves?" he asked, head tilted in that arrogant way that screamed he knew he was right.
Sighing, I shrugged. "I don't know, honestly. We've talked about this so many times. I know what to expect, and I trust Trent not to mess up."
"But?" Jax raised a brow.
