As soon as I stepped foot in the kitchen, Abby lunged at me. She hugged me with all her might, and I immediately stiffened, arms by my sides. I held my breath so I wouldn't have to smell her blood, which was extremely potent.
"I'm so glad you're okay," she said. "I was so worried something might go wrong."
I closed my eyes and concentrated all my thoughts on anything and everything but her and how enticing she smelled - the sound of the clock ticking in the living room, the hum of the refrigerator, the collectively held breaths of everyone around me. The memory of how incredible Trent had felt when he'd kissed me, how eager I was to be alone with him.
"Uh, Abby " Whitney pried her away from me. "Maybe don't hug the new vampire just yet. She needs a bit more time to adjust."
Abby's eyes widened, and her face flushed red - all that blood rushing to her cheeks. I turned away, disgusted with myself for even thinking about her like that. She was family. I did not want to harm her.
