Getting More Skills

Lanis wanted to be the strongest there was so he would no longer be looked down upon or have to listen to anyone besides himself.

To do this, Lanis knew his main goal should be improving his strength, he just didn't know the best way to do it. He could improve his mana control, pour more mana into his mana core to improve it, or simply hunt to gain more skills.

After thinking about it, Lanis realized that his system was what made him special. He was finally the main character that he had read about. He already needed food so hunting and gaining skills should be better than spending all his time improving his core.

Eventually, he would have to meditate and improve like everyone else but for now he should push his advantage and steal every skill he could get.

Lanis looked around the forest for anything he could eat or fight. Eventually he found a rabbit and using his spear he was able to kill it quickly.

Lanis smiled as he decided to test out his new skill. He ran and jumped as far as he could. Although the jump was nothing inhuman it was still better then what he would have normally done.

Due to having to live on the streets, Lanis had picked up a few survival skills so he knew how to make a fire and he quickly cooked and ate the rabbit. It was night time and Lanis was in delight after having a full stomach and plenty of water so he fell into a deep sleep.

When Lanis woke up he had decided that hunting Kobolds and leveling up his spear handling would be the best use of his time. He walked around nearly the entire day but hadn't found anything. He finally found another rabbit right before he was going to go to sleep without eating.

Lanis was disappointed that he couldn't hunt low level creatures until his skills were at a high level but he just had to hunt a wide variety of creatures to get more skills.

With this, he once again slept through the night. When he woke, he continued to hunt, today he got lucky and happened to find a new creature. It was a small blue slime crawling across the ground.

When Lanis stabbed it with his spear he did not get an alert telling him it was dead. When he tried to remove his spear to stab it again the slime was stuck to it. The slime seemed to be deflating as an extremely sticky substance got on Lanis' hands and covered his spear.

Annoyed, Lanis smashed his spear on the ground making the hole in the slime much bigger and very soon after that a screen appeared.

Lanis was disgusted by the slime and vowed to never use the skill even if he got it. He then made his way to a river to wash off before he continued his journey.

A few weeks had passed since Lanis fought the slime and he had just finished hunting a deer.

Lanis had gotten jump from deer, basic sword handling from a kobold with a sword and adhesive from another slime he killed, it seemed even weaker opponents could give him one level if he killed enough of them.

Lanis had already hunted every kind of creature he had seen so far in the forest. Last night he awoke to wolfs howling but he had yet to see any of them. He finished cooking the deer and put some of it into his pockets as he knew he wouldn't have a chance to hunt tomorrow.

The next day Lanis crawled through a bush to scout the kobold camp he had seen over a week ago. There were a few tents all surrounding one giant, grand tent with some wood stacks surrounding the camp as a makeshift wall.

Lanis smiled as he saw the reason he was attacking the base. A huge kobold chief directing everyone in the camp and yelling at or slapping kobolds as he pleased. Since he had seen the camp, he took the time to improve his core strength even though he wanted to abuse his system more, he couldn't find any other kind of creature to hunt. Now that he was a rank 2 hollow core mage, he knew he was ready to attack this camp.

The kobolds sent scouting and hunting parties out of the camp and Lanis now had an idea of their rotation. Over the next day he slowly picked off the kobolds as they left the camp. The next day, Lanis heard the large kobold yell out that none of the kobolds were to leave the camp and Lanis knew his plan wouldn't work anymore.

He slowly approached the camp until one of the kobolds noticed him and yelled to attract others before charging at Lanis with a spear.

Lanis quickly dodged and slashed the kobold's back with his sword before preparing for the oncoming kobold reinforcements.

Lanis butchered the kobolds as they approached him in an almost single file line from all over the base.

That was until the chief made a terrifying yell and all the rest of the kobolds stopped charging and made a ring around Lanis and their chief.

Lanis smiled at the chief as he prepared for a real battle.
