Outside the cave

Alan knew that he could not let anyone know about the cold-blooded murder that he had committed. Acting oblivious was his best choice.

Alan didn't know who that guy was or why he was trying to kill him. But now that he had killed him in self-defence. There is no point thinking about it.

The only reason Alan survived was because of the black-clothed man letting down his guard. If he had not, the flame bullet would have missed the target.

But killing that man gave Alan four hundred units of energy. Much more than any of the beasts.

'He was definitely a mutant. So, he would have substantial backing. I don't want to put my head between a rock and a hard place.'

Although everything creeped him out. Alan's thoughts churned trying to find ideas of how he can get away from this mess.

With his energy replenished. Alan immediately burned the corpse without leaving behind even a bit. The sword was quietly thrown into the deeper part of the cave.

The excess energy was automatically turned into system points and stored. Alan now had 390 system points which he can use to increase his energy reserve. It took him ten points for an increase of one energy. But now, he had 49 units of energy.

After making sure all the evidence was properly disposed of. Alan made his way towards the body of the beast. He knew that Life Corps was interested in the beast's and they would definitely come looking for it.

It would be safe for him to be near it and escape with their help.

After a while, as expected, The rescue team came and found Alan who was playing possum. Making sure that he was not dead, they stabbed him with a syringe before dragging him out of the cave effortlessly.

-----------------------------------------------------

"Where Am I?" Rubbing his eyelids, Alan tried to look around. The last thing he remembered was the stabbing pain in his left leg.

"You are awake? Don't worry, you are safe?" Isabella said while pulling a needle out of Alan's arm.

"Don't worry, It is just for the tests. We can't have you walking around without proper testing, right?" She had a sweet smile while talking to Alan.

But Alan jumped up from where he was sitting. He was creeped out by Isabella. He was in his underwear while she was checking him out. Who wouldn't tense up in that situation?

"What are you doing to my body?" Cautiously backing away and covering his body. Alan asked.

He was frantically moving to get out of the tent.

'Was he was still in a makeshift tent in the forest?'

"No motor disabilities or injuries, Not even a concussion. What are you? How can you be uninjured even after all that?" There was a glint in Isabella's eyes. As if she had finally unravelled the mystery, she asked.

"You are a mutant? But why would a mutant work as a handyman? Unless you just awakened the powers. This is very intriguing indeed." She pondered for a moment.

"I may need to do some more tests on you." Isabella's eyes shone like a star, looking at the biological specimen before her she could not hold in her urge to study him.

'This is bad. This chick could guess my size after counting my teeth. She is a monster, I should stay far away from her.' Alan decided. With how little information she had, Alan was perplexed by Isabella guessing everything accurately.

'With her monstrous intelligence, she may soon find out things I don't want to share.' Even if Isabella was hot, it was not worth it if she was not sane.

Alan jumped out of the tent. He could hear the bone-chilling giggles of a lady from the tents. But who knew, he would escape from the tent only to find Mr Smith looking at him. Mr Smith was the strong mysterious old man with mutant powers.

'From the demonesses clutches onto the gateway to hell. What the f*** is wrong with the world.'

"Alan! You are awake? How are you doing?" Mr Smith was in a happy mood. He smiled while talking to Alan.

'He smiled! The devil is smiling, the end is near.' But hiding his expression Alan replied. "I am okay sir."

"Is that so. Would you be interested in joining the Life Corps? We know about your ability to control fire. I just got the report from our men."

This was a great opportunity for Alan. He always wanted to join Life Crops. Now that he has the ability, he shouldn't waste the chance.

"Yes sir, Thank you for the opportunity."

"Don't mention it. You could come to the nova city head office. I will arrange everything else. Now, go on. If you are okay, you could leave anytime you want." Without a delay, Mr Smith moved away from Alan. He already got what he came here for. Griping a red stone the size of a penny, Mr Smith strode through the camp.

Alan felt that Mr Smith was a good man underneath that stern facade of his. But that was not at all true.

After getting the reports from the diving team, Mr Smith found out about Alan's power. The headless beast and molten rocks was a reminder of how powerful Alan could be with his fire control ability. After all, even among mutants, it is rare to see someone with superpowers to control fire, unlike the common physical enhancement type mutants.

Now that he had an opportunity to do a favour for Alan. He did it, hoping to get him on their side. Although Life Corps may seem united. It was not the case at all.

There was intense competition among the shareholders for resources. And mutants were at the forefront of it all.

It would make his life a lot easier with an ally rather than an enemy. The cold and calculating Mr Smith had a reason for everything he did.

But, Mr Smith wasn't the only one scheming. Alan too was not a naive chick. He too had had his plans to take advantage of the Life Corps. Like that, two schemers hit off well and parted ways saying goodbye.

Alan was ready for the change that will happen in his life. His horizon was enlarged by all the crazy things that happened to him in these few days.
